An armed man was shot dead by a patron after the suspect tried robbing the Waterbury, Connecticut, cafe and the patrons inside, police said.
Police are investigating the fatal incident as a homicide.
Police received reports of gunfire at Cafe Azzurri at 500 Bank Street at about 2:30 a.m. Responding officers found a man with at least one gunshot wound at the cafe and pronounced him dead at the scene.
Witnesses told police that the would-be robber had come into the cafe wielding a gun and tried to steal from the business and the customers, police said.
However, a patron carrying a legally registered handgun confronted the suspect and fired his gun at least once, fatally shooting the man.
Police seized the patron's handgun and aren't releasing his name at this time. He is cooperating with authorities.

It’s just semantics. Either way, it’s a “homicide” which is just latin for the killing of a human being. The only thing which remains to be seen is whether or not it’s considered lawful or unlawful. Based on the story, I’m leaning toward lawful.
CC
the PO-lice regard this as a murder, and shooting civilians is their turf.
Uppity civilians must be punished...
This is good! It makes the second time this has happened this weekend; the other one was at a Waffle House restaurant.
“A homicide?”
Any time a person kills another person it’s a homicide, even if it’s legal. look up the definition of homicide...
Just hope he gets his gun back - undamaged.
In case he was planning to shoot up an elementary school in the morning, I guess.
One and done. That's how you do it, son.
One shot, and done. That’s real gun control! Thugs are a dime a dozen in obalala’s America. Ammo costs real money.
I might agree with you on the meaning in latin, but in legal terms, the term “homicide” isn’t semantic at all, it is extremely specific, and in a bad way.
I live in a blue state and have concealed carry, and if, God forbid, I have to ever use deadly force, I better have my ducks in a row.
Because they will try to screw you legally.
My hometown in the early 60’s.
No, the police didn’t take his gun as evidence which would be procedure.
They had to “seize” it. A little left spin?
Evidence.
The robber is not a victim. He is the perpetrator.

Assuming the reports of this incident are accurate, an identical incident in Texas, and particularly West Texas, would have been handled differently.
First, the Sheriff would most likely have never touched the citizens gun.
Second, given all the eye witness accounts and on scene evidence, likely as not, the county DA and the Sheriff would never even have discussed the incident.
Third, the Commissioners Court for the County the incident occurred in would be drafting a keys to the city resolution and planning an awards ceremony replete with fireworks, parade, BBQ and a Country/Western band.
Fourth, the perps body, if unclaimed, would be on the way to the nearest crematorium in the back of Bubbas pick up truck.
In cause-of-death terminology typically used by medical examiners, the term “homicide” merely means the death of one human as a result of the actions of another, as distinguished from “suicide” or death by some other cause. It doesn’t necessarily imply murder or criminal intent.
I would only cooperate with the authorities AFTER I had engaged the services of a criminal lawyer.
No argument. I was responding to a post that questioned whether of not this was a homicide. Sounds like it was, and a most righteous one.
