A longtime economics professor at the University of Texas at Austin is leaving the school, saying the state's new campus carry law -- which makes it legal for some Texans to carry concealed handguns into college classrooms beginning next August -- has "substantially enhanced" the chances of a shooting.
"With a huge group of students my perception is that the risk that a disgruntled student might bring a gun into the classroom and start shooting at me has been substantially enhanced by the concealed-carry law," economics professor emeritus Daniel Hamermesh, who has been at UT since the mid-90s, wrote in a letter announcing his departure. "Out of self-protection I have chosen to spend part of next Fall at the University of Sydney, where, among other things, this risk seems lower."

Final Grade: F for F-up.
That is ample demonstration of why this clown does not have a real degree in something actually useful.
Does the professor realize that there was nothing stopping the criminals from carrying guns on campus to begin with?
he can live the lie if he wants, people are free to believe they are safer being disarmed in gun-free zones.
Got news for ya ace, I’m from NYC, and if I hated you that much back in my late teens (30 long years ago) a Louisville slugger would have done just as much damage. Maybe more.
He should move to gun-free Chicago.
Profiles in Courage. The odds of a plane crash going to Sydney are higher.
You should quit being such a pompous dick, Dan, ...

Economics is in the college of liberal arts at Texas.
And he got his PHd in 1969 so he was overdue for retirement.
So he actually believed that gun-free meant gun-free... LOL
Perhaps the prof is such an A-hole to his students that his fear is rational in his mind?
bye bye, prof

Remember that economics is a “science” based on assumptions and models that all start with “ceteris parabus” (with all other things being equal). In his mind, a legal gun on campus means that, ceteris parabus, more guns are present on campus and, ceteris parabus, the threat of gun violence increases.
I’m not defending him because he’s an idiot. But that’s how economists think the world operates: one change at a time.
Of course there was something keeping bad guys from bringing guns onto campus — There were signs, big signs even, all over the place telling them that they weren’t allowed to do that.
Keynesian, right?
