A longtime economics professor at the University of Texas at Austin is leaving the school, saying the state's new campus carry law -- which makes it legal for some Texans to carry concealed handguns into college classrooms beginning next August -- has "substantially enhanced" the chances of a shooting.
"With a huge group of students my perception is that the risk that a disgruntled student might bring a gun into the classroom and start shooting at me has been substantially enhanced by the concealed-carry law," economics professor emeritus Daniel Hamermesh, who has been at UT since the mid-90s, wrote in a letter announcing his departure. "Out of self-protection I have chosen to spend part of next Fall at the University of Sydney, where, among other things, this risk seems lower."

Don’t send him to Colorado. We have enough leftists already.

Could get worse than armed students.
It’s UT in Austin ... they house the mentally deficient and impaired there .... there is a quota for hiring them and segregating them there to protect the rest of the state!
The main reason that leftwing nutbags can’t understand that legal gun ownership and carry does not equal impromptu shootings is because they are all mentally unbalanced, and know that if they had guns, they might flip out and shoot someone. They then project that mental instability on others.
This Perfesser for years gleefully handed out D’s & F’s to students he suspected of conservative leanings, and with complete impunity.
Now he fears that students on campus who are packing are also likely to be conservative & pro-gun rights. So he hightails it out of town. Not hard to figure out.
If he wants to serve the “underprivileged”, West Chicago would be a good start.
I’d be happy to follow, but don’t think I could safely adapt to driving on the wrong side of the road....
My basic premise is that you are so badly mistaken that a disgruntled student would have opportunity to even shoot you should others in the class have CCW privileges. Just saying no guns allowed in the classroom will NOT stop a disgruntled student from killing you or anyone else in the room before someone armed could confront and kill that person. It hasn't stopped others.
Now, with an unknown number of students armed in and around that classroom, the likelihood that a disgruntled student would not even get to kill you, but would only kill 1-2 other students before being gunned down trying to get to you is a much more likely scenario. You keep popping off and lying about it, the CCW carriers might just deliberately let the killer get to you.
To the other professor who was quoted saying this, "The classroom in particular is a special space -- a space that has extra reasons for us to keep it a safe space," Joan Neuberger, a history professor at UT Austin, told the Chronicle last week. "In order to teach them, we need to encourage them to say what they need to say. People get very heated. ... If I know there's a possibility that someone has a gun in the classroom, I'm not going to hold those same discussions. I'm not going to encourage students to speak openly.", words almost escape me on how to respond to that hypocrisy.
When I taught, I was vilified, criticized, reprimanded and run out of school systems by people JUST LIKE YOU WITH EVIL, LIBERAL VIEWPOINTS, who didn't use guns to ruin my life, they did it with their evil words, lies and misrepresentation of facts. You can ONLY worry about students who might stand up for the truth being killed by some liberal psychopath (almost all of the mass killings are by people of YOUR philosophical background of obvious near-schizophrenic thinking, by the way) who doesn't like someone pointing out the truth.
That's what happened to me over and over again. For you to say that students should be allowed free discussion without fear of any type of reprisal and that CCW carriers might be a threat to that is a lie so bad you should be horse-whipped AND put in prison because you KNOW you are deliberately lying, propagandizing and misinforming JUST to help your evil, leftist friends take total control of this country so YOU and THEY can then kill those of US who disagree with you. I know people like YOU personally when many people do NOT have a clue about how you actually think because they haven't been around you. You, Neuberger, are so evil it is beyond description.
With a huge group of students my perception is that the risk that a disgruntled student might bring a gun into the classroom and start shooting at me has been substantially enhanced by the concealed-carry law,”

I spent a big part of my high school years being “disgruntled” but it never did enter my mind to shoot a teacher or anyone else. (I’m quite gruntled nowadays, thank you.)
Oh, and after preparing for debate, I can also eloquently speak and leave you in tears in front of the cheering masses. These liberal, leftist, Marxist, Godless professors ARE the problem in this country.
The professor is a liberal with an irrational fear of guns. Logic has nothing to do with it.
The gun free zones this liberal tool promotes has a history of not working out so well.
What would Obama do?
Oh, yeah, run and hide, and pretend that all things will be better if we just disarm and pretend that the bad guys won’t do bad things.
I had a psychology professor that I would NEVER want to be left alone with. Seriously unhinged and out-of-touch. She would escalate a discussion and end up screaming....or laughing uncontrollably. Everyone would just sit very still and be quiet. In a few moments...she'd go on with her lecture as if nothing had happened. She was reported...but never removed.
But look, as an unexpected bonus the campus carry law is getting a gun grabber not only out of the state but out of the countries (Texas and the United States).
Don’t let the door hit ya where the good Lord split ya!
Of course the good liberal professor is exactly correct: this change WILL greatly increase the chance of shootings at the school.
Specifically, the chance that a law-abiding CCW holder will be able to shoot a criminal, up to and including a mass shooter.
Although, frankly, the latter isn’t too likely, mass shooters tend to be attention-seeking cowards, and probably wouldn’t pick a place where people are likely to be carrying as their target.
