This is what Trump's border wall could cost US

A roughly 2,000-mile fence on the Mexican border would cost tens of billions.

If Donald Trump were to build a wall along the United States' southern border, it would cost billions.

The U.S. border with Mexico is roughly 2,000 miles long and underlines four states from California to Texas. It is a massive stretch of land — the Berlin Wall spanned just 96 miles comparatively, and it cost about $25 million to build in 1961, or around $200 million with inflation.

Building a wall to keep out illegal immigrants is not a novel plan. About 670 miles of fencing on the U.S.-Mexico border was completed in accordance with the Bush administration's Secure Fence Act of 2006. That alone cost about $2.4 billion, for roughly one-third of the entire border and, according to migration experts, some of the easier and less costly areas to fence.

The Secure Fence Act called for 700 miles of fencing, with a double layer throughout, but much of the barrier isn't reinforced this way. Even before the fence reached its first stage of completion, some argued it was not being constructed properly....

It is still far less than what illegal aliens cost us in welfare, housing, prisons, healthcare, and deaths in a single year.

The wall is as much of a psychological morale booster as it is a functioning physical barrier. It says the US citizen matters. Borders matter. We the people have a say.

Add it up -

25,000,000 illegals collecting (on average) several hundred dollars per MONTH x 12 months/year = ....

... what, $50 Billion for ONE year? And that’s each and every year, year after year, cumulative; if anything, the yearly number only increases as the families expand.

And that doesn’t even include the crime factor - the misery, the waste of police & judicial resources, etc. In the end, it’s all a freaking lot of money.

Obviously, cheaper in the long run just to build the damn wall.

A two-lane highway costs 2 million per mile, on average in California. That is a repaving cost, not new construction. What is security worth, when the breach by identity fraud is beyond comparison, to political interests?

Berlin Wall??? I was stationed there from ‘82-’85.

It was a 14 foot high concrete wall, topped by a 3 foot diameter cylinder so grappling hooks could not grab. Just in front of that wall were TV sighted machine gun placements every 500 meters, operated by the towers which were 1 km apart. Next came the dog runs, and then the outer minefields. (The last layer of mines was next to the wall.) basically, the wall was defended by 5 separate layers. 28 people tried to get over the American Sector Wall during my deployment.

Three made it.

Dig a wide, deep ditch, fill it with barbed wire coils.

Put barbed wire coils along both edges.

Set up cameras and lights and patrols.

Done.

About the same as any given Progressive do-gooder welfare plan, and for some, much less?

If government contractors are building it yes.
Let private firms bid on it and it will be cheaper and fewer cost overruns.

I heard someone project the cost based on what the very effective Israeli wall cost, and it would be around ten billion. The country spends many times that per year on illegal immigration.

yep - link does not work-

but I will take the wording of this story-...

$2.4 Billion for a third of the wall already built-

that means approx. -$4.8 Billion to finish- Not

TENS OF $$BILLIONS!!- add for inflation and other factors.

STIILLLLL would not cost 10 billion

Fox just reported that APPLE a alone has tens of billions of off shore dollars. 10% of that plus adding the rest into paying new employees should help pay for it too

Note that the cost to US taxpayers of welfare benefits like healthcare for illegal aliens is always ignored with respect what Trump’s border wall is alleged to cost.

The corrupt, post-17th Amendment ratification Senate should never have passed the bills that helped to establish such benefits for illegals.
