Clemson University issued an apology to students on Thursday after what appears to be a small group of students were offended by an annual Mexican cuisine event put on by university dining services.

Clemson Dining’s "Maximum Mexican" night, has become a student favorite over the last several years, and this year was no different, at first.

I know nothing about weapons. first time i shot them.

That's a shame, I've been shooting competitively since the days when you carried your .22 rifle through the High School because the range was in the basement. That was in the 70's. I now mostly shoot sporting clays, and get out at least twice a week.

And I was thinking just now about BlackHawk down. the enemy fired an incredible amount of shots and couldn’t kill all the Americans.

They weren't aiming, just shooting.

Feel free to pick my brain on firearms and shooting. If you're lucky you can relocate to someplace like New Mexico where with a drivers license and cash, outfit yourself with a rifle, pistol, and shotgun in about 20 minutes.

Boy is that heartbreaking. I hate Cuomo. I hate De Blasio. And I’m of Italian descent. I NEVER vote based on that, but got lucky with Rudy.

Too bad he was so liberal on social issues, he was a great mayor.

My fiance and /i will have that “moving” discussion soon enough. I dont like it here anymore and i LOVED shooting.

Maybe the biggest high next to getting my z28 up to 150 on the way to atlantic city when i was a youngun.

Everyone should go to a firing range. They will be pro 2nd amendment in a second.

I will look up what guns they have available at the Brooklyn ranges and ask you your opinion on them. Thanks!!

Ask away, opinions I have. ;)

Getting folks to the range to shoot is very important. My home range (Founder’s Ranch, home of the Single Action Shooting Society - folks that dress up as cowboys and shoot 1800’s vintage firearms) works very hard to get new shooters out. We just did a “First Shots” shotgun program for ladies only, where complete novices came out and got safety instruction, basic instruction, and got to shoot some clays. Everybody had a great time, they all hit some, and it was completely free of charge.

There are almost countless shooting disciplines for pistols, rifles, and shotguns.

The firearms are mostly replicas of the old Colt Peacemaker, and Winchester 1873 rifle.

Clays are the Frisbee-like (~4” diameter) aerial targets used in a number of shotgun sports such as skeet and trap. Both of those have the “birds” thrown in a relatively predictable path. Sporting Clays is no limits, the targets can be thrown on any flight path, and some even roll across the ground... called “rabbits”. (I should have mentioned the range is 450 acres, so we can do such things.) They break when you hit them. When you miss...(yes, you can miss with a shotgun, easily) they keep on going.

Yes. And they put almost 20 pounds on me. I needed an extra couple of miles and an hour of bball to get it off. Is Cervantes still open on Gibson across from the hospital?

Parts of NC are conservative, school towns like Durham are, well, school towns.

Other areas are more conservative.

Day, can you give a desperate to leave NY FReeper a brief run down on NC?

I’ve worked with some Northern Irish Republicans. Anything orange is like waving a cape before a bull.

I’m guessing a University of Tennessee game would send them over the edge.

I rather like Mexican food—and have never been offended by it.

I do too. My wife is visiting her sister, so I'm batching it. I went to a local Mexican restaurant. It was packed. Evidently a lot of other townspeople also like Mexican food. Most of the staff look Hispanic. They weren't offended either.

The version of the M4 you can buy in a free state, like TN, is a para military rifle, just as the version of an AK-47 you can also buy is. The true military M4 and AK-47 rifles all have selectors that allow them to be fired either automatically or semi-automatically. With an automatic, one pull of the trigger fires multiple rounds, one after the other. A semi-auto, the type that's available to civilians, fires only one round per pull of the trigger. Indeed, the thing that makes an "assault rifle" and assault rifle is the full auto capability; thus, so-called "assault rifle" bans are actually aimed at civilian weapons that are not assault rifles.

Turning to hand guns, every revolver fires its cartridges from a revolving cylinder that has a number of chambers bored through it, with each chamber holding one cartridge. The commonest number of chamber is six. Just look at any western; most of the actors are armed with revolvers. A semi-auto pistol, OTOH, operates like the Glock you fired with the cartridges being held by a magazine in the handle and fed from that magazine into the chamber for firing, with each back and forth motion of the slide chambering, firing, extracting, and ejecting one round. In general, the semi-auto gives far more fire power than the revolver, is more complex, and is more prone to failure. Thus, many people, myself included, prefer to carry revolvers as close up perusal defense weapons and keep the higher capacity semi-autos at nome for home defense.

Good luck with your research. You'll probably get a lot more stuff from FReepers here and I'll get flamed for some of what I've written. Guns are one our favorite topics. Just wait for an argument about the virtues of Berettas vs. Glocks!
