Donald Trump will not be the Republican nominee for president, Ted Cruz said Thursday, claiming that a majority of the Manhattan real-estate mogul's supporters would end up voting for him instead.
Cruz was asked whether he believed he could beat Trump based on his principles, in an interview with WABC's Rita Cosby that will air on Sunday. "I think that's right. I think in time I don't believe Donald is going to be the nominee and I think in time the lions share of his supporters end up with us," the freshman senator predicted. "And I think the reason is what I was just saying, that if you look to the records of all the Republican candidates there's a big difference between my record and that of everyone else if you ask, who has stood up to Washington?
He continued: "Who's taken on not just Democrats, but taken on leaders in their own party? Republican leadership, whether was leading the fight to stop Obamacare? Whether it was leading the fight to stop executive amnesty? Or actually, just going back to last week. You know at the last Republican debate in California, every Republican candidate stood up there and said, 'we need to defund Planned Parenthood.' But last week, when we had an epic drag down fight in Washington, not one of them showed up."
Cruz, who has declined to criticize Trump, unlike some of his GOP presidential rivals, reiterated that he is "glad" he is in the race and that his candidacy has reflected favorably on his own positions.

I notice fantasywriter told Liz that every time she says something as hateful as this, Cruz gets another supporter. Oh, that wasn’t said? Huh.
Well either way I would have a party if this ever happens!
They and Rubio have something in common with Barry.
No...in some Trump fans' blind devotion, they believe that Democrat is beyond criticism.
If the original gossip didn’t have the courtesy to ping me, it’s uneccessay for you to do so. By all means gossip as much among yourselves as you like. It’s what some people do best.
I’ll courtesy ping as per FR rules. I don’t care what you want.
There’s a tragic irony, for want of a better way of expressing it, at work here. The Bible forbids gossip, so you gossip. The site requires courtesy pings, so you comply.
Sad.
You try to place yourself up on a moral high horse, yet you support a Democrat.
Yeah.
Ironic.
Following the commands of Christ is not a moral high horse. Rather, heaven help us if we spurn the commands of God .
I love Trump. The more I hear the better he gets. I know he will get the job done. We need a Reagan Revival and Trump is the man who can do it.
Cheers for Trump!
Bullshit. Protectionism is getting everyone in America to pay more for the things they buy in order to subsidize a tiny group of people producing those things. Capital versus labor doesn’t enter into it, it’s just a way to hammer consumers to help the capitalists who own non-competitive domestic businesses.
If there is a balance of power between labor and capital, it is more likely true competition, a reasonable profit, and wages high enough to buy the goods produced will be the result. Remember Henry Ford? He paid his workers enough so they could affor a Ford.
Contrast that to CEOs who import H1b workers or send work overseas to increase the bottom line.
