After Leader McCarthys announcement, members of the House Republican Conference will not vote today for a new Speaker. As I have said previously, I will serve as Speaker until the House votes to elect a new Speaker. We will announce the date for this election at a later date, and Im confident we will elect a new Speaker in the coming weeks. Our conference will work together to ensure we have the strongest team possible as we continue to focus on the American peoples priorities.

You didn’t see the ten threads about McCarthy’s abrupt withdrawal from the race earlier today?
I must admit the imp in me pondered starting a new thread titled, “Did McCarthy withdrawal from the race?”, posted to coincide with all the other threads about his departure on the latest news page. Then I decided not.
I should have.
Bonehead should not leave mad. He should just leave.
Yes. We all (well most of us) know that. That’s not my point.
Do you see Boehner allowing Col Allen West to be appointed Speaker, immediately? Within the next few days?
What are YOU personally doing about it?
Like I said...it’s a GREAT idea. How can you make it work? TIA.
I motion to VACATE THE CHAIR...NOW!
Sounds like he wants to make sure Obummer completes his mission.

I think we need a fresh face, Ill stay on as majority leader ... I feel good about the decision McCarthy says
THIS is more than outrageous!!! The Freedom Caucus/Jim Jordan and the two others running....Chaffetz and Webster, as well as ALL of our R Reps, need to be contacted, IMMEDIATELY, burn the phone, twitter, FB and fax lines DOWN!!
No McCarthy!! Hold the election, NOW!!
Only if Republicans continue to accept the rigged game offered by GOP leadership, meaning only calling for the election when the result is known beforehand.
Usually, this caucus vote would continue multiple times with various slates of contenders, as repeated voting draws out the consensus thinking of the body. If neither remaining candidate can get a majority, then new candidates will step up as factions combine and split with each iteration, until a consensus candidate emerges.
At least, that's how it used to be done before careerists took over and made every vote a scripted, pre-determined outcome that shred only to protect their own interests.

Maybe then the Freedom Caucus erred by warning that they would oppose the preferred candidate. Once boehmer’s lackey is named, they should take no announced position. Privately, they should decide a strategy and wait. Once the votes begin to be cast, it will be time to oppose the GOPe candidate, and let it be known they will oppose the GOPe nominee on the floor.
Just contacted my Representive Mia Love, lines are really busy, also sent an email.com....
We need the Mark Meadows bill to be enacted now!!!
Boehner needs to go NOW!!!
That was not just a simple statement, but a threat to stay until someone like him takes over.
Obviously the plan was for McCarthy to push the Boehner agenda through the rest of this Congress. Continuing Resolution expires Dec. 11. Boehner will want to stay for that now if he can’t find a stooge to do his bidding.
With due respect Jane.
Why hasn’t a conservative stepped up to run.
Conservatives moan and grown about Bonehead, but when the time
comes for one to step up, no one is willing to step up.
Yep...that is exactly what is going to happen...cave and give POTUS everything because they did not like who was wanting to be the next Speaker. This might backfire on Republicans.
Sounds like Boehner’s not leaving until he’s confident that the GOPe can get in their man and keep control away from the conservative types. Screw that.
Webster and/or Chaffetz are not the worst we could do....especially Webster.
Yes, in a perfect world I’d prefer Goehmert, but he won’t run. Why? I have no idea.
If I were Webster, Chaffetz or Jordan, I’d be having my legal and media teams pouring over what Bonehead is trying to do.
This is the solution, right here. imho
This happened because the hand picked candidate had no chance! Then we had two, but no vote because both would likely be acceptable to the conservatives in congress and that will not happen while the establishment still breathes!
Get a candidate to run then maybe he can leave. it seems like nobody wants the job. Who can blame them. The House is a complete and utter mess.
The nerve of that jerk McCarthy to say he’s staying on as Majority Leader. That sullied fool needs to vacate that position, immediately.
In fairness, a delay of a week or so would seem to be in order—McCarthy dropping out does change things. Other people might run. Even if others don’t, people who were planning on voting for McCarthy finding out at the last minute that they he is not an option and having to vote between one of the two remaining candidates would be placed in an unfair situation.
