All signs point to the nation numbing to Donald Trumps shtick. His poll numbers are in a holding pattern and his favorability among Republicans is slipping. His pranks arent as good as they used to be. He isnt tossing out entertainingly insane Trumpisms at the pace he used toor if he is, fewer people are paying attention.
Mr. Trumps ability to command both voter and news media attention simply by being his outlandish, bombastic self is starting to wane, the New York Times reported on Wednesday. The Times points to ebbing social media chatter about Trumps hijinks as well as a dip in mentions and appearances on conservative talk radio shows.
Trumps campaign has lived off a strategy of constant free media exposuresomething he earned, we should note, by expressing many newsworthy opinions that a not-insignificant number of human beings found oddly compelling in a presidential candidate. Thats how he has been able to dominate the race after only spending a couple million dollars of his own money. The problem with Trumps strategy, though, is hes created exceedingly high expectations for himself: Unless he keeps upping the ante of bombast, hes going to see a cratering or even collapse in his media coverage.

these guys are knee jerk hypocrites on a couple of levels.
first, they claim that they are supposed to be afflicting the comfortable and comforting the afflicted. in this case, the claim is that trump does not have the money to succeed. then, what category is trump but afflicted?
second, the bar is set by the cost of media coverage itself. the media benefits from political campaign advertising. it is not a neutral party. It is commenting on a potential source of its own income, or a potential competitor to a potential source.
What is to preclude the media from eliminating all but the richest of candidates from running, based on a deep pockets criteria?
I also notice Slate does not permit comments on its articles. What cowards.
For example, you see schools getting out and hundreds of kids going home for the day and not one white kid. Not many black kids either for that matter unless you go to inner cities.
What has happened and why are they giving our state away to invaders who will undercut everyone else and work for peanuts? This has to stop and be reversed.
You know exactly what I'm talking about.
If you want them to be confidential they are. I'm proud to contribute and want to let everyone know I support FR.
Trump makes more than a million dollars A DAY.
'Considerably more than 20 million' means more than 3 weeks pay for him. Yesterday Trump was asked about making changes in the White House if he was elected.. he said he might but that he would pay for the changes out of his own money... Sounds like he's not going to drop out for lack of funds. And the book deal? That money is being donated to charity. Salon needs to work harder at their research..
Also, when he's President we - the American people - will happily pay for updating the White House as needed for Trump and his family.
Ahhhh.... Why don’t you write us a nice opus first. You wouldn’t be missed.
How does it feel to be echoing Slate Magazine?
I, too, am 100% all in with Cruz. To me Trump is and always has been a liberal and I will not vote for him under any circumstances.
I laugh at articles from slate, nyt, puff ho, and the rest of the liberal rags that claim he is dropping and this one “he’s running out of money is the funniest I’ve read yet.
One thing I really like about Trump is he takes all the cheap shots that had he not been in the race would have been directed directly at Cruz.
Yeah we've had Bush vs Gore. Bush vs. Kerry. McCain Vs Obama. Romeney vs. Obama. Now we have Trump vs. Hillary. Wait he is not attacking Hillary. He is attacking every other Republican that is running.
Telling the media that Hillary belongs in prison is kinda weak.
You win. /s
Maybe because I wouldn't give a flying f**k what you think?
Trump has yearly income from assets of around $400 million or about $1.1 million a day. He could spend that two million dollars he has spent in the last four months every day from now till election and still not cut into more than $400 million of his assets of $10 billion.
If Trump wins the WH and decided to live there which I doubt. I think rather than golf each day the Donald would live in NYC and do both jobs. Obviously he is a fabulous delegator. He’d have to have the place either entirely fumigated or bulldozed and redone, if Obama doesn’t steal everything.
Gosh, no wonder Trumps website takes donations.
He must be running out of money.
(Trump humor)
Doesn't a crater come after a collapse?
Wow, are you really that daft?
Really, I guess you need a refresher on how presidential election politics work. It's too early to start in on the other side when the race is all against your own side for the nomination at this point. Get it?
Trump’s getting stronger. CNN said that he was doing well at 3pm eastern. He has the money.
