All signs point to the nation numbing to Donald Trumps shtick. His poll numbers are in a holding pattern and his favorability among Republicans is slipping. His pranks arent as good as they used to be. He isnt tossing out entertainingly insane Trumpisms at the pace he used toor if he is, fewer people are paying attention.
Mr. Trumps ability to command both voter and news media attention simply by being his outlandish, bombastic self is starting to wane, the New York Times reported on Wednesday. The Times points to ebbing social media chatter about Trumps hijinks as well as a dip in mentions and appearances on conservative talk radio shows.
Trumps campaign has lived off a strategy of constant free media exposuresomething he earned, we should note, by expressing many newsworthy opinions that a not-insignificant number of human beings found oddly compelling in a presidential candidate. Thats how he has been able to dominate the race after only spending a couple million dollars of his own money. The problem with Trumps strategy, though, is hes created exceedingly high expectations for himself: Unless he keeps upping the ante of bombast, hes going to see a cratering or even collapse in his media coverage.

Carson didn’t inherit millions when he was ten year old either!
We are seeing a paradigm shift here... don’t get bitter please, just watch and see. If Trump turns out to be the utter stink, you will have the right to rub everybody’s nose in it. HOWEVER... that does not look like how events are shaping up, quite frankly. This is something that is being driven by something bigger than Trump. It isn’t Trump centric. It is more heaven centric.
Well said Lady.... Well said.
Free Republic has never allowed advocacy for RINOs or flip floppers.
Like McCain and Romney.
Even Dole. Or GW Bush.
It's always been disallowed and ridiculed.
How come I'm not seeing your name as a donor if you are ready to take over the site? I've looked for several quarters. Are you just being modest?
I am not even 100% sure he’s his own boss, there may be traces of what he still remembers from his childhood faith background that are nudging him in this direction.
This has more the look of a blessing of an unlikely vessel than of a human plot.
But one thing, the media gallery ISN’T his boss, and that is the important thing.
You sound just like a true Rand Paul supporter. You should go wash your pajamas now.
According to this article and a few others, Trump had originally budgeted 20 million for ad buys through mid-September, but obviously didn't need them. They are in the process of being rolled out soon. Once again Mr Trump ahead of the curve. Also has a new book coming out in a few days, "Crippled America" ... interesting quite from Mr. Donald in the article:
"Campaign manager Corey Lewandowski said Trumps team would probably spend considerably more than $20 million on paid media later this year whatever it takes. He said the spots would be nontraditional, saying the firm, which he and Trump declined to name, has never created political ads.
Central to the fall strategy is the release later this month of a book that will serve as a campaign manifesto. During the interview, Trump showed off the cover and title, Crippled America, and held up pages of the galleys, which he was editing by hand. Its actually the hardest Ive worked on a book since The Art of the Deal, he said, referring to his 1987 bestseller. I dont want to have a stupid statement in the book that people are going to say, Hey, why did he say that?

If it were not for the Lord, which I would hope even lofty you would consider worthy of worship, there wouldn’t be a free anything. We’d all be slaves to the devil in hell.

Aren't contribution lists confidential?
Trump isn’t another Mitt and that’s pretty obvious.
We had Gore vs. Bush.
We had Bush vs Kerry.
We had McCain vs Obama.
We had Obama vs Romney.
We have a candidate who says he is sick of it and is not afraid to say just what he wants to correct. You tell me what qualifies your time in the last 17 years to be so damn conservative? I believe he understands why the USA is going down the crapper and he wants to stop it. You cannot do that from the penthouse of Trump Tower.
I very much like and greatly admire Dr Carson. I think and believe him to be a totally honest and ethical man. I haven’t yet tried to picture or to imagine him in the role of CIC, but I have imagined him as our ‘domestic president’ and he could handle that role brilliantly.
Slate.
Apparently Jim Newell hasn’t been paying attention.
The current narrative now seems to be to pressure Mr. Trump to “spend” large amounts of his fortune to further his campaign.
This is a very interesting “development”. The MSM seems to be irritated that the enormous sums of cash that is normally lavished upon them is not forthcoming, so far, from Mr. Trump.
This “development” is unacceptable as far as the MSM is concerned. Mr. Trump CANNOT have such a “free ride” and expect to further his ambitions at the expense of the MSM who must have their “piece of the pie”!
I don't mind the Trump supporters per se. But when they have completely taken over the site and allowed to bully conservatives is not a good thing.
Trump is rolling out a new book
To use the words of Howard Stern
Trump fans will buy the book to find out what he has to say.
Trump haters will buy the book to find out what he has to say, to use against Trump
The book will finance the next tranche of Trump’s campaign
No. No he won’t.
I’m no Trump supporter, and I think he has massively overstated his wealth, but this is the dumbest article I’ve read since....well, probably the last Slate or Salon article posted here.
Well, it’s a theory...
