The Texas senator may look like an also-ran, but hes a legit contender.
Wheres Ted Cruz? The outspoken Texas senator has been unusually quiet in recent weeks. But in GOP circles, theres soft but growing chatter that he is likely to be one of the last men standing in one of the most chaotic and unpredictable presidential races in recent memory.
You wouldnt know it from his poll numbers. Cruz is running at about 6 percent nationally and in key states such as Iowa and New Hampshire. Thats well behind outsiders Donald Trump, Carly Fiorina, and Ben Carson, and those numbers accord with the attitude that many influential Republicans have taken toward him since his arrival in Washington three years ago: Theres no way he can win the nomination. Hes too conservative and doctrinaire, and his abrasiveness doesnt help the cause.
Given his poll numbers and his solid but unremarkable debate performances, the press has mostly ignored him. The result is that the Texas senator may be the most undercovered serious candidate in the race and the most underestimated. But he shouldnt be dismissed. This is the man, after all, who, according to one of his allies, began meeting with Iowa activists to plot his path to victory in the state in August of 2013, just nine months after he was elected to the Senate. Is it possible that hell sneak up on the Republican establishment again, just as he did in his 2012 Senate race?
Within Republican circles, attitudes about his viability have begun to change.

Yeah, unfortunately 25 to 30 percent of “conservatives” are progressive sheep who allow the loudest barking dog to herd them.
YES!!! GO TED GO!!!!
Any Republican who isn’t a go-along-get-along squish for the democrats is abrasive in Washington. Reagan was abrasive in their jaded liberal eyes. Telling the truth makes you abrasive in their eyes. Keeping your word makes you abrasive in the eyes of liberals Republican and Democrat.
I’ll take abrasive any day over any current member of the Republican leadership and their supporters.
The initial reportage about Cruz...did little more than call him The Firebrand, and intention of those “reports” was to prepare the way to Ignore him at every opportunity.
a lot of people think the media is afraid of trump
theyre far more frightened of Ted Cruz
Go Ted!
I had been in lower management while I worked and there were some unpleasant chores connected with the job. The worst one involving...you might think I am crazy...firing a troublesome or non=performing employee. You can call me a wimp, but it took courage. I’m just trying to be empathetic with Cruz when I look at what it must have taken to identify problems with your boss, and to address it and tackle it, alone, among one hundred senators, in front of unknown numbers of people watching on TV across the country. I find that admirable.
All this with total professionalism and clearly laying out the facts, all the facts. That is a skill.
In this day and age one could easily say thatTed’s mature beyond his years.
Bright, Calm, Collected, Authoritative.
We already owe him a debt of gratitude.
You are so right, Mikey.
