A new new study is showing astonishing results that are sure to make the NFL uncomfortable once again over concussions. In the study, Frontline reports 87 of 91 former players have tested positive for brain disease.
The disease is called CTE (or chronic traumatic encephalopathy). Its a disease found in some football players derived from repeated head trauma. The disease is linked to dementia, memory loss, and depression as well as other behavioral changes.

I guess the 4% who don't are the kickers and punters. *chuckle*

The numbers may not be absolutely correct (pretty small sample size after all) but the ultimate conclusion I’m sure is right - getting your bell rung and repeatedly ain’t good for the old squash. It’s got nothing to do with communism, soccer, religion, or anything else. It’s just got to do with that piece of gray tissue floating around in a liquid cocoon surrounded by a hard shell. It’s does better if it’s not knocked around violently.

LOL. There you go. Maybe the worst cases are tied to the “Leftist” gene.

‘Roids may also be part of the issue.

and salt is bad for you. I never believe anything that the Government puts out these days as it is contradicted a few years later (or sooner). You really do have to put on a foil hat to believe anything coming from Government surveys these days. As for the MSM and the faithful, they will continue to expel their truth.

How many boys haven't had a concussion? From high school football, falling off bikes, falling off tree swings, etc? I know I have. Of course, not to the extreme extent that NFL players have, but still would be interesting to see some statistics on this.

Maybe this is a pre-existing condition that somehow encourages the patient to play football. I would use the word 'compels' rather than 'encourages.'
The only alternative for most of those brain-damaged players is the illicit drug trade.

Not like the damage he would’ve gotten with a long career with the NFL! Things are still a bit more plastic during the ages of 18 to 22 and the brain reaches full maturity in most males by age 27. May he have a long career in the ministry!

Skimmed the story and didn’t see any reference to a control/comparison group.
Maybe I missed it but, absent matched controls, this doesn’t mean a whole lot.

I agree. First, soccer lets girls play. Second, it doesn't in the way football does involve man on man struggles where you can see a winner and loser. Third---and this is ironically strange---the high preponderance of black players in the NFL threatens to turn it into gladiatorial combat of blacks watched by whites. In America, you see very few blacks involved in soccer.
Then there is this: one of the proposals for minimizing concussions is to go back to I padded leather helmets. There are rules prohibiting players from taking off their helmets on the field. In part, this means that for the most part fans don't see race on the field (yes of course on the sidelines, but there is an illusion). The no-helmet change would dramatically change that visual.
Ever think about this: every Cowboy fan know Emmitt Smith and Michael Irwin by their numbers ---22 and 88--- as much as their faces.
