Caught between conflicting moral arguments, Gov. Jerry Brown, a former Jesuit seminary student, on Monday signed a measure allowing physicians to prescribe lethal doses of drugs to terminally ill patients who want to hasten their deaths.
Approving the bill, whose opponents included the Catholic Church, appeared to be a gut-wrenching decision for the 77-year-old governor, who as a young man studied to enter the priesthood.
In the end, I was left to reflect on what I would want in the face of my own death, Brown added. I do not know what I would do if I were dying in prolonged and excruciating pain. I am certain, however, that it would be a comfort to be able to consider the options afforded by this bill. And I wouldnt deny that right to others."

My "lost cause" moment came when my sister-in-law told me they vote democrat because Republicans don't do enough to stop abortion.
Hospitals do it now all over the country under the signed “do not resuscitate” forms. If I am going to die or dying, just give me morphine until it kills me.
I’ve been influenced by the book “the Snow Walker” but don’t watch the movie.
“This is a dark day for California and for the Brown legacy, Rosales said in a statement. As someone of wealth and access to the world’s best medical care and doctors, the governor’s background is very different than that of millions of Californians living in healthcare poverty without that same access — these are the people and families potentially hurt by giving doctors the power to prescribe lethal overdoses to patients.”
The poor will be murdered through coercion. The elderly will be murdered through coercion. Many elderly take their own lives now just because they feel they are a burden.
What’s the difference between this and hospice care besides the timeline?

?????????? “Walk with God?” You aren’t there.
I’ve read the same. The Jesuit’s code is as scary as the code of the Islamic extremists.
We have what we call "Comfort Measures Only" on many terminally ill...intimately going to die patients.
We keep them comfortable...Morphine drip, all the 02 they need....
Not a thing wrong with that....
That said....MoonBeam is an idiot.
But we need to express our wishes to family and friends. Make it legal if you have to...
I think I have it handled with my family.....
That made me LOL.....
There is nothing moral about Moonbeam and he must have flunked out of seminary school.
