During a brief, little-noticed speech in May, Rep. Mick Mulvaney implored Republican presidential contenders and their supporters to stop tailoring their rhetoric to satisfy true believers and instead prioritize expanding the conservative tent.
(SNIP)
This concern was clearly influential in his decision to endorse Paul. Comparing the Kentucky senator with rival Republican contender Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas, Mulvaney had this to say in an interview with the Associated Press: "Ted is not bringing anybody new into the party. Rand is."
Agreed. And for every good or interesting point he makes, he adds one that’s awful and drives many people away. He’s just too darned much like his dad - especially untrustworthy on defense and foreign relations issues methinks - and no amount of “no taxes and no drug laws” talk can make up for that IMHO
“Ted is eating Rand’s lunch and anybody who is paying any attention knows it.”
That’s right. Rand is somebody Ted can actually beat..
Hahaha! You’re funny. Want to bet a nice steak dinner that either Cruz or Trump is the eventual nominee? Do you know that Cruz has more hard money than anyone, even Bush?
Mulvaney has it wrong. We don’t need anyone new, we need to bring back all the disenchanted voters who have been burned by the last few crops of RINOS.
Betting is a sin and Cruz would be very cross with me and give me another long, soft spoken lecture.
In the old days, before DT, raising the most money actually mattered. The calculus has changed.
Maybe. Maybe not. Who would you rather be at this point, Rand Paul or Carly Fiorina with virtually no money, or Ted Cruz with a combined $150 million?
Rand "0%" Paul is bringing them in in droves. Over the invisible fence and across the border.
“Rep. Mick Mulvaney implored Republican presidential contenders and their supporters to stop tailoring their rhetoric to satisfy true believers”
Sometimes this guy sounds really good; other times I don’t trust him. Particularly I don’t trust him on immigration issues.
Isn’t Fiorina polling higher than Cruz?
Not in Iowa based on the averages, according to this author.
Ok. My apologies. With respect to your question (serious question) I know that $$ leads to ads which leads to exposure, however, relative to Carly Fiorina (and I’m not a fan of hers) with Ted Cruz’s experience in the Senate thus far, and his Conservative cred, based on name recognition solely, would you not think that Cruz would be polling much higher in Republican primary polls? I know polls are highly suspect, especially this far out, but they’ve been fairly consistent thus far (not to say accurate, but consistent). Is it possible that Cruz just doesn’t have “it” to capture the uncommitted? I know he’s the most Conservative, smartest, great debater, etc, etc, but what good is raising millions of he doesn’t poll higher than single digits in most polls? I don’t see Cruz “connecting” with Joe the Plumber who’s trying to make ends meet in a crappy economy. I get where he’s coming from, but what is he offering those that aren’t the “choir”, so to speak?
