U.S. Sen. Ron Johnson said he favors committing U.S. ground troops to a multinational military coalition that would enter Syria and create safe zones for refugees fleeing the war-torn nation.
Johnson, a first-term Republican, spoke Friday at Madison-Kipp Corp. in Madison, at an event to mark Wisconsin Manufacturing Month.

Johnson said he doesnt know how many U.S. ground troops would be required for the effort. Russias recent involvement in the region may complicate it, he added.

Johnsons Syria stance puts him in line with other hawkish GOP senators, including Republicans Lindsey Graham of South Carolina and John McCain of Arizona, who also have called for U.S. troops in Syria.
Graham also is a presidential candidate. Another GOP presidential hopeful, Ohio Gov. John Kasich, also spoke Friday in favor of a ground coalition to create safe zones in Syria.

So we have a new fool to make a three some with Linda and McShame. Even the war nut fags in D.C. are get stranger.
Surely you can’t be Syrious, Johnson.
Russia is not doing this action for ‘virtuous’ purposes. They are acting for THEIR best interest and that would be keeping Assad in power, preventing a Saudi natural gas pipeline transversing thru Syria to Turkey and on to Western Europe. Russia does not want the breaking of their energy stranglehold to Europe. They will wipe out ALL rebel forces threatening Syria. If ISIS continues to present a Syrian threat from Iraq, the Russians will deal with it. I sincerely doubt that Russia gives a rat’s a— what threat ISIS poses to the US or our allies as long as it doesn’t threaten Russian interests.
If the white hut was serious about fighting ISIS - instead of arming and protecting - they’ve had a couple years to do it.
Putin fights war the old way: fight to win.
We need to stay out of the way.
I wonder, does the white hut now want OUR soldiers on the ground so as to hinder Russia’s ability to defeat bammy’s brothers?
The world, watching Putin, is holding it’s breath - with hope - that ISIS is going to be stopped in it’s headlong goal to establish the Caliphate around the world..
Bammy’s staff must be busy peeling our narcissist off the walls on the O-office.
I think it more likely that bammy would bomb them and blame it on Russia
I wonder if bammy's goal hasn't been to let ISIS - which he armed from the beginning - get rid of Assad in order to take the country over - as a big part of establishing the Caliphate...
tOO many people, including Freepers, still believe what comes out of bammy's mouth.
I tend to think his goal is the opposite of what he says - been proved right more'n once...
BINGO
Read Hersh’s 2007 article “The Redirection”.
In retrospect it explains many things. ISIS is Prince Bandar’s boys who got way out of control. Doesn’t matter anymore though. They only have two choices. Die or go on Welfare in Germany.
Putin has said more than once that he doesn't intend to put Russian troops on the ground - that he is going to supply Syria's troops with the equipment and training to do the on-the-ground fighting.
Seems like a good strategy 0
Those in DC hollering to put OUR troops in - their reasons are not to stop ISIS but to muck things up for Russia.
I also wonder if they aren't afraid of what we, and the world, might find out over there _ what country's military equipment ISIS is fighting with, for one, if we can't get people in there to prevent it...
So true, Johnson once had promise but then he joined the Toomey tunes ranks.
I guess that means we are going to do it, no matter how stupid it is.
Plus add the precedent of bypassing congress in Libya to take out Qaddafi
NO NO NO, nor more spilling of blood for a country we have no reason being in from the start.
I like how all these folks just can’t get enough war.
“Russia is not doing this action for virtuous purposes. They are acting for THEIR best interest”
Good for them.
No! Let Russia wade neck deep there. We need to work on Jordan Egypt Tunisia Algeria and Morrocco instead. Iraq Iran and Syria are unraveling into religious sectarian tribal and political divisions pre Sykes-Picot. It will be a very long time before things settle down there
Ron Johnson approves the use of US ground troops in Syria.
FReep mail me if you want on, or off, this Wisconsin interest ping list.
Senator Johnson? I know I voted for ya and all that, but I have to pass on this one. Let Russia do the dirty work.
No more American blood shed and treasure WASTED on that rat-hole Middle East!
Ripley had it RIGHT. Nuke it from space!
