When President Obama spoke in reaction to the heinous October 1 attack on Umpqua Community College, he went beyond his usual calls for more gun control and suggested instead that America consider following the path blazed by Australia and Great Britain.
In the mid-1990s Australia and Great Britain both instituted what were virtually complete bans on firearm possession.
Obama referenced the bans thus:
We know that other countries, in response to one mass shooting, have been able to craft laws that almost eliminate mass shootings. Friends of ours, allies of ours Great Britain, Australia, countries like ours. So we know there are ways to prevent it.

Until they are ratted out. Believe me. I’m with you 100% . But we cannot ignore what I’m saying either.

Like I said, a Muslim Jihadist can get a gun, but a law abiding citizen that wants to protect himself can’t get one, that is the liberal philosophy

Obama should start with the South Side of Chicago - - take guns away from street criminals. That law’s already on the books to do that...

In 2000 I did not believe Americans would stand still for gun confiscation. By 2015 I had changed my mind. If he waits until 2016 to begin and comes up a slick slogan such as universal background checks or the class envy ploy I believe he will succeed.

It torques Obozo’s pink lil panties that he is powerless to ban and or confiscate weapons in America.
It'll never happen. Well, let me say, it will never happen without sparking a backlash that will be unlike anything seen in this country...since the war of Northern aggression.
Triple dog dare’em.

Australia & UK indeed require registration of all privately held firearms, and this is what makes confiscation so simple:
“Turn them in, citizens, because you don’t want the police at your door seizing your guns and arresting you for noncompliance which makes you a criminal forever.”
Outside of NY, NJ, CA, CT, where FOID & registration of `assault’ weapons is mandatory, there are few registered guns in the U.S.
If the authorities want then to knock on every door in America in a random search for guns, it’s insurrection & civil war for sure.

I bet Australia required gun registration, which made it easier to confiscate them. There are a lot of unregistered guns in the US.
Yes, they did . They all did. First full mandatory registration. Within a few years, confiscation. I don't think Barack wants to wait that long-he doesn't want to take a chance a conservative will get in and turn it around. He has always gotten what he wants, he will go for the brass ring soon.

I figured as much.
Registration is a necessary prerequisite to confiscation.

It’s going to be tough though to get the guns if they don’t know where they are.

I know what you’re saying, but that .0001% will have, among other things, ummmm, “minimal connections to society”.
Nobody will know what they’re doing, and so be unable to rat them out.

Well, ya better get on down to Texas. Consider this.
There are over 90 million citizens in America that own a firearm...or two or three. There are approx. 300 million firearms in this country.
Conservative ciphering..if 1% refuse to give over their weapons, that would be close to million armed Americans willing to stand up for the 2nd amendment. hint hint
To: E. Pluribus Unum
fortunately for them, I lost all my weapons and ammo in a terrible boating accident.
Sohhhhh, nothing to fear from me...
