oops—wrong thread.
Yes it was pretty much a closed loop system.
Richly reward the unionized city/state employees, and they GOTV and contribute to politicians. And repeat.
Yep.
The candidate must be totally perfect.
No flaws allowed.
Check out article and # 36 .
.
I believe they also withheld an endorsement of Mondale over Reagan in 1984.
So far as I know, this is the only time a major union either endorsed the GOP candidate or withheld an endorsement for a Democrat.
I know some smaller unions have done so on some occasions, but these are the only examples of a large union which I can recall. Anybody else?
Reagan warned them not to strike against the public safety, but they felt entitled and did it anyway. I think he gave them 72 hours to report for duty or their jobs would be declared vacant. Something like just under 40% of them reported back to work; the remainder gambled that he was kidding. He wasn't. There was a lot of overtime while new people were trained, but no major safety incidents. It was one of Reagan's finest moments and the public almost unanimously supported him.
I totally agree. IF trump holds everything together for just a little while longer, then he is over the top, unbeatable, unstoppable, and President Donald Trump. I say that not as a Trump fan, I am for Cruz, but I can read the writing on the wall.
That’s not a flaw, it would be a total inconsistency.
You must know some of those guys, as do I.
I concur.

Former Michigan Congressman Pete Hoekstra says Trump won't likely be the only GOP Presidential hopeful they sit down with... "They should meet with others. I think John Kasich might be worth a look from them, Rand Paul has shown a willigness to work with people, Marco Rubio perhaps also-there's four right there... Hoffa tried to reach out and was constantly rebuffed by the Bush administration," Hoekstra said. "So they probably wouldn't want to meet with Jeb." Hoekstra is well acquainted with the Teamsters, which he says is immensely professional and more independent than other unions.
Lying weasel rats are one thing, especially when they have their hand out behind their backs, but blatant in your face communists....not so much.
Several years ago it was polled that over 40% of union members voted Republican, and the last I heard the Union membership had fallen somewhere between 10-15% of “workers”. I grew up with no respect for the word, “workers”.
Well, the Teamsters are usually 18 wheel truckers, and truckers are those guys who drive those trucks with confederate flags on them. I don’t see them supporting Hillary, even if the Union backed her. Then there are those Mexican truckers, I’m sure Hillary can forget about the Teamsters. She has the NEA and SIEU in her pocket and maybe the AFL CIO. Being a member of a Union doesn’t guarantee a vote for the Dems, my parents, both union members crossed party lines when it came to the election. They voted for who ever they felt was most qualified to represent them, regardless if they had a D R or I in front of their name.
Waiting to see if Biden enters the race? LOL, he can always say, I was Hillary’s boss, she didn’t do crap, she screwed up everything she did.
AFL CIO and AFSCME waiting to see if Biden enters the race? LOL, he can always say, I was Hillary’s boss, she didn’t do crap, she screwed up everything she did. Pass the popcorn, this may be a real blast to watch. If this ends as Hillary, use Trump. If it ends with Biden, use Cruz.
LOL, that would be awesome!
And he may not be smart enough to do that, but then again probably not smart enough to fear Hilliary and the Dixie Mafia.
BTW, here's a new thread about the same article with some refreshing new comments.
Trump Leading by 27% in Union Stronghold as Teamsters Want Meeting & Unions Abandon Hillary[10-1-15
