U.S., allies demand Russia halt Syria strikes outside IS areas

BEIRUT/MOSCOW (Reuters) - Russia bombed Syria for a third day on Friday, mainly hitting areas held by rival insurgent groups rather than the Islamic State fighters it said it was targeting and drawing an increasingly angry response from the West.

The U.S.-led coalition that is waging its own air war against Islamic State called on the Russians to halt strikes on targets other than Islamic State.

"We call on the Russian Federation to immediately cease its attacks on the Syrian opposition and civilians and to focus its efforts on fighting ISIL," said the coalition, which includes the United States, major European powers, Arab states and Turkey.

"We express our deep concern with regard to the Russian military build-up in Syria and especially ‎the attacks by the Russian Air Force on Hama, Homs and Idlib since yesterday which led to civilian casualties and did not target Daesh," it said.

ISIL and Daesh are both acronyms for Islamic State, also known as ISIS, which has set up a caliphate across a swathe of eastern Syria and northern Iraq.

In Syria, the group is one of many fighting against Russia's ally, President Bashar al-Assad. Washington and its Western and regional allies say Russia is using it as a pretext to bomb other groups that oppose Assad. Some of these groups have received training and weapons from Assad's foreign enemies, including the United States.

As are his supporters here.

Who the F is an Obama supporter here besides you and your comrades? If it weren't for Obama your boy KGB/FSB Putin wouldn't be where he is today, in such a position of power. What could you possibly have against Obama. If Reagan were still around your Russians buddies would be no where near where they are today. So, please, don't attempt to tell us you're upset with Obama. That you aren't happy as Hell that he's the US president.

The Russian’s don’t scare me and I couldn’t care less about Syria.

With that attitude, it's virtually guaranteed that you'll be whining the loudest when you discover that the "globe" hasn't turned your way.

But then, I'm a globalist . . . .

Question from me (ETL) to Norm Lenhart:
“So you are actually admitting here that you are OK with Russia taking control of the Middle East and Easter Europe?

His Answer:
“COMPLETELY OK WITH IT.”

Well, what do you expect from Americans after 14 years of fruitless war in the middle east. I DON’T CARE ABOUT SYRIA!

My neighborhood is being turned to garbage by politicians purposefully flooding it with third world scum! Assad had nothing to do with it. If I’m going to burn in an all out World War you bet your a$$ it’s going to be fighting against whose actually guilty of destroying my country.

I completely understand. People need to learn that chewing gum and walking are entirely two different things.

I don’t know about that, but how else can a sentient being respond to the assertion that “I don’t care about Russia because my neighborhood is turning Mexican?”

So you want unicorns to appear and fix it. Typical liberal BS. You are against Russia fixing the mess we made and against us killing more of our own needlessly but expect some Clintonian 'third way' crap to appear instantly and save the day.

If it were up to me, I would significantly step up our own attacks on ISIS until they're destroyed or reduced to a minimal threat, leaving Russia no reason for being there. But YOU certainly wouldn't like that, as it would curtail their true goal there: to take over the Middle East.

IF about anyone but you and Barry were COC I’d say nuke russia because there would be a chance we could win it. But with you or barry wanting to get soldiers killed for imperial pursuits I’d have to pass on either of you and pray the KGB agent has more sense than either of you.

It seems those prayers are already answered.

Ok, so we have U.S. national interests, and Obama national interests. When can we go back to the U.S. form? When you feel like it?

Yea and???

Yea, and what I said earlier about you being a totally screwed up in the head evil "so and so", or something like that.

Anyone that would say for it to be "COMPLETELY OK" (your caps, not mine) with them (you) for an evil totalitarian brutal regime like Russia's, under Putin or otherwise, with their long history of arming and supporting America's enemies, and stabbing us in the back time after time, terminal 'silencing' of political opponents, etc, etc, to take over the Middle East and Eastern Europe, in an obvious attempt at restoring something akin to the former Soviet Union, has to be out of their friggin minds. No ifs, ands, or buts. You put your foot in your mouth. I didn't.

Again, if it weren’t for Obama, your boy KGB Putin would be nowhere near in a powerful position as he is today. So stop pretending that you aren’t happy as Hades about him being the US president. He’s the best that ever happened to people like you who want to see a return of the Soviet Union, or something similar to it.

This is getting dangerous.

Maybe Putin gambled that we wouldn’t do anything and now we might?

If Obama was hesitant to go against Assad, a guy who gassed his own people(in anything but a passive "training rebels" way); and if Obama is hesitant to go against ISIS (except in an ineffective, half-hearted air campaign that's gone on for a year with virtually no results), I'm pretty sure he's not going to do anything to Russia.

This is no gamble by Putin, it's lock.

When you start talking about other posters behind their backs, it's a sure sign that you've stepped in it and are looking to bow out with some element of grace.

One would think that a FR vet would understand. But you've always acted like a n00b.
