Russia Is Using Old, Dumb Bombs, Making Syria Air War Even More Brutal
Daily Beast ^ | October 2, 2015 | David Axe

On Sept. 30, Russian warplanes launched their first air raids in Syria, striking eight targets around Homs, north of Damascus. In a second day of strikes on Oct. 1, Moscow’s planes hit another five targets, according to the Russian Defense Ministry.

The Kremlin insists it’s hitting militants from the so-called Islamic State. But the locations of the aerial strikes imply otherwise—that Russia’s bombing civilians and U.S.-backed rebels instead. Chillingly, video and photographs from Russia’s new air war seem to indicate that the attacks are inaccurate and indiscriminate.

The more brutal the war the longer lasting is the peace. Ask Germany and Japan.

Why do you feel the need to rewrite my post rather than answer the question?

I'm just taking your stupid posts to their logical conclusion. If you're comparing fire bombs and nuclear attacks in a war of annihilation to Russian indiscriminate bombing of civilian cities in Syria today, it must follow that you think using such methods on civilians in Syria is what we should be doing.

There is a difference between bombings which result in civilian casualties and bombings which target civilians.

This is Russia, the same country that bombed entire Chechen cities and targeted people for torture and rape. If a bomb is going off on civilian targets, community centers or places with a high concentration of people with no ISIS involvement, I think we can reasonably conclude it's more of the same from Moscow.

they are not targeting civilians and yes we have done the same as Russia, The difference is that Russia knows how to fight a war and will bomb a mosque etc if there are terrorists.

I think that based on one article from "Daily Beast" we can reasonably conclude nothing.

I merely asked the question. You are the one who used the word, criminal.
“If the US was targeting civilians in past wars to “win them,” then they were criminal wars.”
I made no statement of conclusion. The Dresden and Tokyo bombings, as well as the nukes, were hardly indiscriminate. They were designed to break the will of the enemy, and they worked.

I notice you did not answer the original question I put to you in Post #72.

In your opinion, did the United States have the "moral high-ground" in World War II?

Considering the Roosevelt administration was crawling with Communists, and that we let the Russians-- our "allies"-- get away with extreme war crimes, even handing them back civilians who had escaped from Russia knowing full well they would be immediately executed, I hardly believe in a mythology of the US being a Saint in World War 2.

As for Dresden etc, the stated reasoning for bombing was to eliminate their industry. But if you think melting babies into asphalt is a good thing, or that all Germans needed to be exterminated, I suppose you would react to that the same way you're reacting to the targeting of women and children today.

You still haven't answered my question. Will you please answer my question?

By the way, I neither stated nor in any way implied that I think "melting babies into asphalt" was a good thing, nor did I state or imply that "all Germans needed to be exterminated".

All I did was ask you a question. A question which you seem to be very reluctant to answer.

Your imagination seems to be running amok with horrific, vile and baseless thoughts and ideas about other people - people whom you have never met and do not even know. Please remember, though, that the horrific thoughts you expressed came from within YOUR head, not mine.

PS - You have yet to provide evidence, apart from statements contained in a single article from a left-wing web site, that the Russians are actually targeting civilians.

I obviously just answered it, but you're content with the whole "let's bomb civilian cities because we did it in WW2!" kick at the moment, so you won't hear it.

Well, when bombs are going off on top of civilians in areas not even controlled by ISIS you kind of conclude they're being targeted. Plenty of articles have been posted on FR mentioning these attacks beginning. You can go look them up yourself, you already ticked me off with your obnoxious and irrelevant crap about WW2 so you can defend civilian bombing.

The Dresden and Tokyo bombings, as well as the nukes, were hardly indiscriminate. They were designed to break the will of the enemy, and they worked.

That's not the official line, which in many sources claims that the fire bombing was an accident, a side effect of targeting German industry. Although the truth is they were indeed designed to attack civilians, to create fire storms, and they even used bombs on a timer designed to wipe out first responders. Many of these are still buried around Germany and are still a danger of going off. But then, this sort of thing in fact inspired the Germans to retaliate in kind. If my memory serves, it was the British who set off this kind of thing at least a week or two weeks before the Germans started doing it themselves. The only defense back then is that we didn't exactly have the technology to fight wars very much differently.

If you want to fight that kind of war, that's fine, but let's not pretend that we-- if we engaged in what the Russians are doing-- have a moral high ground here if we're targeting innocent people and not even ISIS targets.

You absolutely, positively, did NOT answer my question, and you are a liar if you claim you did.

My question has only two possible answers: Those answers are “yes”, or “no”.

Glad to be of service. I benefited from our interaction as well, because I do not consider my day complete unless I have ticked off at least one sanctimonious, holier-than-thou jackass who is incapable of mounting a logical argument. It’s even more gratifying when the person has a mind as twisted and sick as yours.

It's cute that you think your mass murder position (which you walked back anyway by declaring there's no evidence of deliberate targeting of civilians) was logical.

What do you think it means if I paint the US as a compromised collaborator of communists who delivered people to Soviet gulags? It plainly means I don't believe in a spotless America. Your reading comprehension sucks.

There is not a week where one can come on here, see a poster who one has never interacted or remember, who then spout left wing talking points.Today it seems is one of those days.

So the Russians take care of business and the left wing get all bent out of shape while they have ignored all the innocents being killed by Obama,’s orders.

What's wrong with you people anyway? Even Rush was pointing out the game Russia is playing here, which is just setting up Syria against its non-ISIS enemies, including Israel. You don't need anti-air weapons when your alleged enemy doesn't have an air force. The way Russia just bombs civilians and then boasts about it is just further evidence of how sick and twisted Moscow is.
