On Sept. 30, Russian warplanes launched their first air raids in Syria, striking eight targets around Homs, north of Damascus. In a second day of strikes on Oct. 1, Moscows planes hit another five targets, according to the Russian Defense Ministry.
The Kremlin insists its hitting militants from the so-called Islamic State. But the locations of the aerial strikes imply otherwisethat Russias bombing civilians and U.S.-backed rebels instead. Chillingly, video and photographs from Russias new air war seem to indicate that the attacks are inaccurate and indiscriminate.

Sell them to Iran. They're used to it.
Good.
I remember 9/11, the Daily Beast should move to Syria so they can experience how much less damage is being done.
William Tecumseh Sherman said it right, but there are war mongers here that think we can fight a good clean war, where nobody gets hurt, and everyone goes home each night to watch DWTS.
Anyone not an islamist already has the moral high ground.
BTW, I remember muslim “civilians” ululating and throwing parties after 911. And don't get me started about Falluja. They deserve this - and worse.
To what extent does Ivan even have “smart” bombs?
Lol secular freedom-loving headchoppers and heart-eating cannibals.
Grew up hearing my dad’s stories of the Italian campaign in the 40s (he was a kid there, not a soldier). Seeing the Allied bombers drop their payload overhead and he would just freeze in terror thinking they were going to land right on top of him. One eventually got his house and he was pulled out of the rubble. He never let me forget the destruction of Montecassino, which was a horrendous, horrendous mistake on the part of the Allies that killed thousands of innocent civilians and destroyed that glorious abbey.
Morally, you have to do everything you can to avoid civilian casualties. But modern war is such that it is becoming increasingly difficult.
So you don’t even think about declaring war unless the status quo of letting things alone is so monstrously horrible and unjust, that some errant bombs killing thousands becomes a greater mercy than allowing sick, evil people to murder, rape, enslave, and repress millions.
Those criteria seem to have been met for a war against the Islamic State—whoever is waging it. As terrifying as it must be to be under those bombs, I ‘m guessing that a sizable population are secretly rejoicing over those Russian payloads even as they pray feverishly not to be caught under them.
Collateral damage is an added benefit
They probably have enough left over Cold War ordinance to reduce all of Iraq to rubble. Good time to clear out use up old inventory
I agree, and so did this guy:
“War is cruelty, and you cannot reform it. The crueler it is, the shorter it is.”

“It is good that war is so terrible, else we should grow too fond of it” - Robert E Lee
We’d never won WW2 with this regimes mindset.
"Sure, winning isn't every thing; it's the only thing." Thank you coach Sanders.
it's also how we used to wage war...back when we won wars.
Yes
William Tecumseh Sherman said it right, but there are war mongers here that think we can fight a good clean war,
Are you a Democrat? I ask because you’re using the words of the left to attack those you disagree with.
My take from this is that you basically assume that every man, woman and child in Syria is a terrorist and deserves to die.
If the US was targeting civilians in past wars to “win them,” then they were criminal wars.
Brutal, and effective.
