CHILLICOTHE You know the tale about the tortoise and the hare? In beating the odds, thats nothing compared to a plucky snapping turtle in Chillicothe.
The critter was brutally stabbed through its shell and body, then survived for days teeming with blood and maggots before lumbering into a Chillicothe neighborhood Saturday. There, Paul and Diane Tuttle spotted the turtle a yellow screwdriver sticking out of its green shell, yet persistently plodding upon the pavement.
Who would do such a cruel thing to an animal? Paul Tuttle, an 18-year Peoria police officer, says the stabbing was no accident no instance of hunting gone wrong.

Oh, the turtle is 100 years old. Yeah, some turtles can live a very long time. Last I heard, Charles Darwin's pet turtle is still alive in a Zoo.
Ooooppps. It appears that it has died, but still 176 years old is pretty old.
This is serious. We may he looking at a future planned parenthood abortionist here.
And fu to the “theyre just animals” crowd. It may be necessary to kill animals for food and self defense and humane reasons, but torture bs doesnt pass my values or God’s.
You raise a good point of course (that people should be just as outraged at abortion itself as the videos of selling baby parts) but you know what they say, a picture is worth a thousand words. And besides if the videos end up finally waking people up to the atrocity who is anyone to argue?
Of course PP is still being funded anyway thanks in large part to Senator Turtle. Hey! Maybe he drove the screwdriver into this one! A bit of jealousy perhaps? This one does look better than the Senate majority leader.
Lots of flooded strip mines around Chillicothe (I’ve done some dive/rescue training in them) I’ll bet they’re thick with snappers.
Afraid not. You stalked Norm to yet another thread. It's becoming a daily occurrence.
Dude, you're obsessed.
Best way to put that snapping turtle out of its misery is to cook it & eat it.
Lots youtube vids on preparing snapping turtle for the pot & they are not for the faint of heart.
Told ya I haZ a cute butt...
“Who would do such a cruel thing to an animal? Paul Tuttle, an 18-year Peoria police officer, says the stabbing was no accident no instance of hunting gone wrong.”
Is this implying that the police actually got involved???
You’re lucky, I’m still on the hunt for the little bastard that’s been chirping in my garage for the last 3 nights.
sorry, I just don’t have a lot of compassion for the plight of turtles.
One of my favorite things to do as a kid was sit by our pond with my 22 and try to shoot the turtles when their heads popped up.
Dittos on everything you said.
My snapping turtle story. Visiting an uncle we would go fishing for cat fish and snapper turtle. The turtles were huge! (Oklahoma). We would bring the turtles home live and kill them on the driveway. He would let one out the bag, it would come after him and he would grab the mouth with a pliers and then slit the neck nice and quick.
Then he made me do it. He got a kick out of that. This big turtle chasing me around the driveway - me waving the pliers around in front of it’s face but not having the guts to get my hand too close! It knocked the pliers out of my hands once. I finally grabbed him and was good on the killing part - but trying to grab him in the mouth was frightening. After a few more times I was comfortable with it.
Like snakes - those big snapper turtles are amazing animals. And they taste good too! (The turtles. Never killed or ate a snake.)
good lord!!! i wonder why they live so much longer than us!!
Kill it with fire. Gas and a match, man. Then he won’t bug you again.
Heep the fire going though. Nights are getting cool with no roof over your head...But he’ll be dead and thats what matters.
Concur, with a small edit.
No, I’m not going to kill it. I’m going to donate it to the state for the use of a warning system. Loudest cricket I’ve heard in my life. I have a very large home, with a detached 4 car garage. I can hear the damn thing when I’m watching tv in my living room. Loud music I can handle, babies crying I can deal with, but a lone cricket has just about sent me over the edge haha.
I have eaten snappers before, they are actually pretty good. I watched grandpa clean them though... I wouldn't go through that much trouble for the amount of meat he got.
Apologies. I didn’t realize it was a detached garage.
Better solution...

If he survives we make it King!
Thank-you and God Bless.
Probably due to their slower metabolism.
