A university has banned students from wearing sombreros after they deemed the Mexican hats to be racist.
The student union (SU) at the University of East Anglia ordered staff at Pedros Tex-Mex Cantina in Norwich to stop handing out the free sombreros at a freshers fair in a bid to boost business.
Officials at the university believe that it would be offensive for anyone who is not Mexican to be wearing the traditional headwear.
They say the restaurant broke an advertising policy that states: Discriminatory or stereotypical language or imagery aimed towards any group or individual based on characteristics will not be permitted as part of our advertising.
Campaigns and Democracy officer Chris Jarvis told student newspaper The Tab: At the SU we want all members feel safe and accepted, so at all events we try to ensure that there is no behaviour, language or imagery which could be considered racist, sexist, homophobic, transphobic or ableist.

{Its also probably racist to sell Mexican food!}
Even saying “Mexican” food is racist.
Ban serapes, too?
Next, get refried beans off the menu?
What’s the point of having a Mexican restaurant if it can’t refer to anything Mexican?
This is the university of climate fraud infamy, right?
I’m starting to see a pattern here.
***Officials at the university believe that it would be offensive for anyone who is not Mexican to be wearing the traditional headwear.***
And yet, many Hispanics still wear what we call the Cowboy hat just like Anglo cowboys and cowboy wannabes.
On Okinawa many of the people working in the fields wear a straw hat that looks just like a sombrero. I pointed it out to a Spanish co worker when I was there in 1968.
But on the other side, while driving north on Peoria in Tulsa years ago, I saw a tall black guy come out of the welfare apartments on Apache street and diddybop (Yes, diddybop) across road wearing a HUGE spangle covered Mexican Sombrero. I guess he didn’t know he was being racist against Mexicans, but boy did he did shine!
A good hat looks great on many people.
Kristina?!?
I wondered how long it would take for the FRITO BANDITO to be mentioned. If it had not been I would have mentioned it.
Now I think of it, Bill Dana (José Jiménez) NEVER wore a sombrero and was still hounded off the TV by the politically correctness nonsense of 1970 along with the FRITO BANDITO.
LOL!
Thank goodness Der Wienerschnitzel employs only Viennese immigrants. They’re the only ones who can really make a good wienerschnitzel.
Hey, I saw this guy, Alfonso Bedoya play a TURK or Middle Eastern trader LU CHUNG in THE BLACK ROSE. Was that racist?
He was one of my favorite character actors in lots of western movies.
“This kids look would be improved by wearing a sombrero.”
And a mustachio!
Sombrero in spanish means hat. Of course, what people think of when they think of a sombrero is the wide-brimmed Mexican hat of movies and tv.
The one time I was in Mexico (Juarez) I saw many Mexican men wearing sombreros, but they were all cowboy-style hats. Not one wore a wide-brimmed sombrero. They did sell them in the stores.
If wearing clothing from another culture is racist, then logically eating their food has to be racist as well. I doubt the liberal "big thinkers" have thought things through clearly.
Not a baseball player? Can’t wear a baseball cap.
Not a cowboy? Can’t wear a cowboy hat.
Not a miner? Can’t wear a hardhat.
Etc., etc.
Idiots on parade...
Jose Jimenez wore a helmet, not a sombrero:
“Mr Jimenez; is that a crash helmet?”
“Oh! I hope not.” answers Jimenez.
Wow. A sombrero is now racist.
What about bikinis? Mexican women wear those.
I better hang out around pools more, so that when women are told to take them off I’m there to document it.
One would think it would be impossible for this country to grow more stupid by the day, but one would be wrong.
I’m sure Chris works very had to be safe and accepted.
Chris’s clothes look very American. He needs to change into traditional Saxon garb or self identify himself as a racist.
