Let’s Do Better Than This - Trump’s touting of socialized medicine and confused position on taxes...
The American Spectator ^ | September 30, 2015 | Scott McKay

[SNIP]

Republicans ought to be demanding an end to progressive taxation in this country—a flat tax at minimum, with a potential move down the line to a consumption tax eventually if that can be done. We shouldn’t be settling for a simple whittling of tax brackets from seven to four. And we absolutely shouldn’t be exempting anyone from federal income tax while we have such a tax at all. We have far too many people in this country who don’t vote like taxpayers; how do you think a no-talent hack like Obama managed to become president?

The hope had been that Trump would broaden himself during this campaign..... What made Trump interesting was the possibility that, as a businessman, he would apply clear-eyed fiscal analysis and technological innovation to the leviathan and show the way for a 21st century model of government...

...that simply hasn’t come to fruition, and at this point it doesn’t look like it will.

And reversing himself 180 degrees on taxes during the Pelley interview, after once again extolling socialized medicine, just shows that he’s not the guy.

The Democrats are flat on their backs in this cycle. When their first debate finally rolls around on October 13 it will become clear that none of their candidates could even survive at the GOP’s kids’ table. We have the opportunity to present the American people with a candidate who is unapologetically, nakedly, and provably conservative—and aggressive about it—and win in a rout reminiscent of at least 1968 or possibly even 1980..

We need to move on and vet the rest of these people. Trump is taking up too much oxygen.

There's far more than the oxygen issue....which as you indicated is a non issue. There's this....from the article....from DT's own mouth:

Scott Pelley: How do you fix it? Donald Trump: There’s many different ways, by the way. Everybody’s got to be covered. This is an un-Republican thing for me to say because a lot of times they say, “No, no, the lower 25 percent that can’t afford private. But—”I am going to take care of everybody. I don’t care if it costs me votes or not. Everybody’s going to be taken care of much better than they’re taken care of now. They’re going to be taken care of. I would make a deal with existing hospitals to take care of people. And, you know what, if this is probably— —the government’s gonna pay for it. But we’re going to save so much money on the other side.

That's far far far from Reagan-esque on health care. It does sound a lot like Obama Care, Medicare, and all of this "I" stuff is un nerving.

Trump’s plan is free Obamaphones for all, “turned up to eleven”, and with a thin candy coating of what appears to be conservatism.

Doesn’t take long to see that a certain group around here want to avoid the real issues in the article because they’re obsessed with your support of Walker.

Kind of indicates them’s weak on the substance. But we knew that....

Who’s we?

Those who knew from Trump's past positions, his party affiliations, his financial political support of the far left Democrat leadership (who successfully pushed through Obamacare, etc) that Trump was a liberal then and is a liberal now.

Now the union bosses are giving him warm glances.

A Trump presidency would usher in socialism without the need of a [D] behind his name.

You think we have uni-party government now? You ain't seen nothing yet.

Trump could win as a Democrat with his platform.

It won’t be much longer before someone is able to come up with a “who said it? Donald Trump or Bernie Sanders?” quiz which will not be easy to answer correctly.

Funny, I've been using the Trump/Sanders analogy for a while. Of course, lot of Freepers are right in there with liberal policies on some issues.

It's sounding more and more like Walker union busting hatred to me.

I think it’s more a total lack of substance. As you know, you nor Walker are the issue here. And yet, to those exposed by the real issues, it is only about you and Walker.

I also get a sense of a SoreloserWife.

I didn't mind all the Walker support post, but now she's mad as hell at the primary leader that sent her boy packing.

Trump is the “mad as hell and were not going to take it anymore” candidate, period. His proposals are mostly the same old same old, and not much different from Obama, except maybe on immigration.

Oh I certainly realize that, and certain learned opinions aside, we who applaud him for bringing back the word “illegal” to the national dialogue are not “Boehner Clones.”

It is a curious situation. Her hubby says he does not agree with her on at least some issues but encourages her to continue where she wants to go.

To me it sounds much like James Carville and Mary Matalin. In my estimation those two are the consummate political whores laughing all the way to the bank. Both are employed by the establishment and that says it all for me that both are untrustworthy in any of their public opinions.

As for CW and her hubby, I’m sure that a talented hacker could find out who they really are, but is it worth the effort when she does all the work for us to expose herself as a RINO?

Applauding him, which I sometimes do, is not the same as making him the leader of the free world.

“Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me.”

Oh, wise one, what shall we do? 99% of our elected officials turn their backs on us and line their own pockets once in office. Their loyalty is not to the voters who put them into office, but to those who enrich both their power and wealth.

No matter what (Republican or Democrat) political life will go on as if their serving in office was a right...not a privilege bestowed up on them by the voters.

We have to do something for we are at the end of this chapter in America’s greatness and liberties. The next election will determine the final road we will take at the crossroads of freedom or slavery.

Vote blindly for the “pre-chosen” party favorite and there is no question which road we will take. Vote for the right individual and we have a chance they will take the road to freedom.

What are we to do?

so you still think the issue is CW and who she works for. Sorry, to me that’s not the issue.

Facts are facts. Truth is truth. Even when those facts and that truth come from a source one may not trust. Here’s a suggestion: judge an idea on the merits of the idea, not the merits of the source. I’m not saying don’t pay any attention to the source, but stop ignoring the ideas 100%.

I agree. When I vote in Georgia Primary, it will be for Cruz. If and when it comes to the General and Cruz isn’t on it and Trump is, I’ll vote for him over any of the other choices, frankly.

Under no circumstance will I vote for Bush, Rubio, Paul, Fiorina, etc.

Pure bullchit. His policy on guns, immigration and taxes are as far from Obama as you can get.

We are going to end up with Jeb and you can thank yourselves for it.

What are we to do?

Carefully examine each candidate and see which one will really address the problems you stated. Also, open your mind to the fact that such candidate may not be the hot flavor of the day.
