While more conservative GOP lawmakers in the House celebrated the decision of Speaker John Boehner to leave his post, those same Tea Party lawmakers readily acknowledged that they are passing on the idea of trying to elect one of their own fellow conservatives as Boehner’s replacement, or even to fill another expected opening for a top Republican leadership post in the House.
“This has never been about making the conservatives the leaders of the party,” said Rep. Raul Labrador (R-ID).
“We never thought we had enough votes to get one of our own elected,” said Rep. Mick Mulvaney (R-SC), as he and other conservatives argue the basic plan is to force change within the GOP, not seize the Speaker’s job.
“The goal is to try to improve the process, and improve the system,” Mulvaney told me.
“That wasn’t my goal,” said Rep. Ted Yoho (R-FL), when asked why conservatives weren’t in the race for Speaker; Yoho wants fellow conservatives to quiz leadership candidates on what they would do if elected as Speaker.
“I think it is important that we have a set of principles that we believe in,” said Labrador.
The strategy of not running anyone for Speaker – but trying to play kingmaker – could result in a situation where more conservative Republicans withhold their votes on the House floor, and keep a GOP candidate short of the majority needed to win an election as Speaker.

Agree, the problem is the number of members of Congress who are “compromised”. Blackmailed, bought, threatened into submission to the system.
Nothing less than a huge purge will fix this.

Exactly. Webster, while not perfect, is a YUUUUUGE step in the right direction. I would be very pleased if we can replace Boehner with Webster.
Plus, it would send the message that the GOPe has been beaten. They want McCarthy in the worst way. And we wouldn’t have to endure the Globalist Liberal Ruling Elite media saying that anytime the House DID manage to push something remotely conservative, that it would be “McCarthyism” all over again.

I told Mick to run, or ask Trey to run. Frankly, Gohmert, Gowdy, any of those guys would be great if they’d just get out there now and say, “I’m taking this lobbying cartel and destroying it.”
Talked to Jeb Hensarling just a few days ago and he said he didn’t want the job. Wasn’t that surprised tho. I think he wants to stay where he’s at on the Financial Services Committee. Hopefully another conservative will step up to the plate.
Oh, yes, Jamie Dupree of the famous Sean Hannity show, who claims that he is not partisan.
He claims he is neutral, but try to find one instance where he applauds conservatives.
I hear Janie Dupree on Hannity sometimes. Sometimes he sounds like he has insight and too many other days he is caught off guard with a question Sean asks. I decided he is just another Beltway insider who doesn’t get out much.
I just heard on Faux and Friends while interviewing their THEIR pick for Speaker, McCarthy opined...”Unfortunately we have three branches of government” on the subject of trying to get things done.
I remember those same words coming out of the mouth of 0 on serving a third term and by-passing Congress.
This is disappointing, but I admit it is realistic. Real conservatives are a smallish fraction of the total House Republican caucus. And, of course, it is much worse in the Senate. If the conservatives can leverage their votes to get a more conservative candidate (relatively speaking) into the Speaker’s chair, it will be a step in the right direction. And they should absolutely insist on a conservative as Majority Leader.

If I hear Dupree’s voice, I change channels. I can’t bear to listen to the guy.

Dan Webster is a good man. Very skilled FL legislator who knows how to get a vote done. His history in FL state legislation is a good overview. He has the skills and NO Boehner baggage. AND the GOPe hates him.
This Jamie Dupree is a smug a@@hole who makes his shallow living talking to the parliament of whores, more specifically the lobbyists who pay the whores and vice versa.

Conservatives talk and then don’t walk the talk. And the nation continues its downward path to disaster.

Rolling over and playing dead is not a good political strategy.
Daniel Webster is running. What has really happened is that rather than all showing their own ambition, the conservative wing of the Republican party is avoiding splitting the bill.

Ironically, the real story here is that they are NOT. Rather than all clamoring to run, they are pooling their vote, apparently either to back Webster, or win huge concessions from McCarthy.
They have limits on what they can do. They ran out the speaker and that was huge but they need to increase their numbers before they can rule absolute. That means trying to work with other REPUBLICANS.
That’s the bigger point here, the whole House is supposed to be on our side but in reality, they’re not. If these conservatives can hamstring the new speaker, it will be a step in the right direction.
