I am finding that I got the malware page warning now every time I click on a link to the original source page.
However, I am finding this doesn't happen if you click from the link to the story from the main Forum page, rather than clicking on the link to the FR story page and then clicking to the original source link from there.
I'll be interested to know whether this solution works for anybody else.
Thanks for posting. I’ve seen several freepers running into this today.
Is this something that could be done deliberately from outside? I’m not tech savvy.
Yes I figured that out 1st thing this AM as I tried all links to the particular post.
It only happens after I open the post and access the redirector link below the title.all the other links are fine.
Chrome works OK Safari don’t
My ? remains who’s problem is it,Mine,Safari,FR,Google?
Absolutely no problems here. Running Opera on a Linux OS and really have no idea what you are going on about.
I’m not getting any such warning. Are you sure it’s not an infection on your machine? Pinging to all lists.
I'm sure it's not my machine. Too many other Freepers are reporting the same issue for it to be a problem with just my machine.
It’s not just you. It’s happening to me, too.
More likely the problem is on your computer than a general bug in FR. Occam’s Razor. Virus scan your computer, pronto.
I have FR bookmarked in my menu bar, specifically the index page (latest articles).
When I’ve been clicking on that today, it brings me to latest posts, not the latest articles.
Weird.
I’m getting it too.
Good advice for everyone, problems or not.
Running Firefox on Linux. No problems here.
I am getting from Chrome:
The site ahead contains malware

Tried it on explorer, no issues, and no issues with another laptop running Lumbuntu and Firefox.
Ran Malawarebytes and found nothing, it's definitely on the redirect page and only certain browsers.
Got the first pop-up when I went to look at a source article about the radio "inventor" , but that is probably coincidence
Yes, it could be Jim and John’s servers. Someone could have used an exploit on the FR servers or got the user name and password to log in from outside.
FreeRepublic was reported by somebody as an attack site. If you have attack sites blocked, it won’t go to the links directly. This is a problem on their end.
I'm not sure how important that redirect page is, other than a fixed source page so that if anyone asks, it can be shown how many times people clicked through to an article from a story and to mask exactly what story page they came from. Since the front page links don't go to the re-direct page (why should it, it just shows the main forum page?) there's no warning, as you intentionally chose to use a link to another website.
I just opened Free Republic in Google Chrome. No problems whatsoever.
I think they fixed it. It’s not doing it anymore when you click on the source to the articles.
