The conservative poll Donald Trump could not win

The results are in at the Values Voter Summit -- and, for once, Donald Trump fails to top a conservative poll.

The straw poll at the summit, a conservative gathering hosted by the Family Research Council in Washington, D.C., showed Texas Sen. Ted Cruz winning over voters, leading the pack for the third year in a row.

Cruz, with 35 percent of support, was followed by neurosurgeon-turned-politician Ben Carson, with 18 percent of the vote. Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee came in third, drawing 14 percent of supporters, followed by Florida Sen. Marco Rubio at 13 percent.

Play Video Why so thin-skinned, Donald Trump?

Registering at fifth place on the survey results: Donald Trump, the GOP front-runner in many state and national polls.

The religious conservatives in attendance simply weren't buying what Trump had to offer. Despite bringing his Bible on stage when addressing the audience, Trump registered at only 5 percent. Trump was even booed at the summit when he slammed Rubio over his immigration policies and called him a "clown."

Below Trump, Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum and former Hewlett-Packard chief Carly Fiorina came in with 4 percent and 3 percent of the vote, respectively.

Trump's low support among the conservative evangelical base will come as no surprise for those following the billionaire's presidential campaign. Trump has been known to flout convention when it comes to wooing the religious right, even admitting once that he was "not sure" that he had ever asked God for forgiveness.

"If I do something wrong, I think I just try and make it right, I don't bring God into that picture," Trump said in July at the Family Leadership Summit in Iowa.

Still, Family Research Council president Tony Perkins, who announced the summit's results, said that Trump's fifth place showing was still "pretty good."

Of the issues most important to attendees, the top three included protecting religious liberty, advocating against abortion rights and protecting "natural marriage."

Carson, with 25 percent of the vote, was the first choice for the vice-presidential slot.

At least 2,700 registered participants attended the summit.

Very fun, Jane—But, I’m not joking, the guy’s uncanny. Seconds- he beats me by seconds all the time.

Now, let me ask you because I know you know a lot about the Board— how’d this thread get in “breaking news”? I didn’t put it there.

I have no idea.

I did see an OP, on another thread today, mention something about how they “did not put this in (whatever forum)”. Maybe the posts are doing strange things?

I bet 2DV will know. Bwahahahaha ;-)

“But I’m having a pretty good laugh at you crowing one minute over Luntz’s remarks, and dismissing them the next.”

Crow? Did he say that they were booing Rubio? Yes. He even said that it was odd coming from him to say that.

So, when he changed his story (I will have to accept that you are being factual) I merely referenced his ADMITTED bias. That is not “dismissing” , it is merely stating his own admission. Now if he wants to change his story, that doesn’t say much for his reliability. He is supposed to be the cold, objective scientist.

It isn’t just Cruz that voted reluctantly for the Corker Bill. It was also, as I said previously and which you choose to ignore, Senator Jeff Sessions and Senator Mike Lee.

> “You Cruz zombies get on my nerves.”

Good. Enjoy your ‘nerves’. You really should go somewhere else where your nerves can be soothed like here:

There you can make friends with the many faggots who hold regular Cruz hatefests.

This was a Washington meeting, an inside the beltway meeting of religious conservatives and I’m glad Ted Cruz won the poll.

The only way to change the GOP is to stomp it.

Trump is doing that.

But just speaking of straw polls in general (outside of this one) other straw polls, people are bussed in and a larger portion do not even take part in the poll.

We know that the Paul family have managed to rig them over the years. Some have made it a priority to win a straw poll, others have not made the effort

I am speaking of OTHER straw polls, not this one.

I watched both of the men on stage.

Hands down Cruz was the leader I would want leading my Country out of this hole we are in.

Wake up Trumpbots and put the Kool-aid down before it is too late.

You are following another Obama like politician over the cliff.

Trump will roll through the South. This is over March 1st. Florida won’t even matter.

A very good conservative wins this poll, and you would think that "conservatives" would be happy about it. But no... the range of complaints and angry remonstrations are very interesting. Obviously since Donald did not win this poll, there must be something wrong with the poll, or the conservatives who were polled. Ted is not even at the top in the mainline polls, but judging by the reactions on this thread, he looks like he is running neck and neck against Trump.

And when did FR get into bashing proven conservatives like Cruz, who have actually been roasted by liberal animosity?

“Trump was even booed at the summit when he slammed Rubio over his immigration policies “

Any group that backs Rubio’s amnesty isn’t conservative. No matter what they call themselves or pretend to be.

“It was also, as I said previously and which you choose to ignore, Senator Jeff Sessions and Senator Mike Lee.”

Ignore? The discussion was about votes made by Cruz.

Yes, they did, but Cruz zombies act as if he is a literal, flesh and blood incarnation of the Constitution for the 21st century.

“There you can make friends with the many faggots who hold regular Cruz hatefests.”

Faggots? Why are you consorting with them on that site?

Unsatisfied longings?

I have never seen Cruz resort to the gutter for vindication.

You must be a agent provocateur trying to make Cruz’s supporters look like fools, but I think you only reflect on yourself.

Thank goodness the lilly white do gooders are becoming fewer.

That is great news, because per the Trump supporters, Cruz voted for Corker bill and that other bad bill. So Cruz is not perfect, hence he can be supported by the legions of pale pastel baddies. Otherwise the pale pastel baddies are purists and vote only for the most imperfect candidate.
