Actor an environmental activist Leonardo DiCaprio has pledged to divest from his fossil fuel holdings and increase his investment in renewable energy companies, an environmental group announced Tuesday.
DiCaprio attended a meeting of the Divest-Invest Coalition in New York City Tuesday, where he pledged to end his personal and his Leonardo DiCaprio Foundation’s investments in the fossil fuel sector.
“Climate change is severely impacting the health of our planet and all of its inhabitants, and we must transition to a clean energy economy that does not rely on fossil fuels, the main driver of this global problem.” the Departed actor said in a statement.
After looking into the growing movement to divest from fossil fuels and invest in climate solutions, I was convinced to make the pledge on behalf of myself and the Leonardo DiCaprio Foundation. Now is the time to divest and invest to let our world leaders know that we, as individuals and institutions, are taking action to address climate change, and we expect them to do their part this December in Paris at the U.N. climate talks.
According to the organization, more than 400 institutions and 2,000 individuals have pledged to divest fossil fuel holdings ahead of the planned UN climate change gathering in Paris later this year. The organization claims the value of divestments accrued already tops $2.6 trillion.
Divest-Invest also touted other organizations that have made the pledge, including California’s Public Employees Retirement System (CalPERS), the University of California system, the Canadian Medical Association, the Norway Pension Fund, the Children’s Investment Fund Foundation, and the World Council of Churches.

He’s only talking about his investments... stocks. He’s telling his broker to dump oil stocks and stick with “renewable”. This will have exactly 0 impact on fossil fuel consumption, but he’ll sleep better at night knowing he doesn’t own any oil stocks.
Obviously he will be paddling his kayak everywhere he goes on water or on a bicycle on land, he will turn all his homes into refugee shelters and sell his yacht and split the income between the local homeless shelters and food kitchens.
So Lenny ... you’re going to plant a lot of trees, eh ?

Of course not, none of those things because (a) he can still buy credits from algore to cleanse his conscience and (b) he is so way more important than us ordinary folks that he is morally permitted to use some fossil fuels to run all over the world to convince us and eventually force us to use none. After all, by being a middling Hollywood actor he is obviously way more qualified to decide what is good for us than we are, and of course this status also endows him with insights into the physical sciences well beyond those of ordinary mortals, however well-trained academically.
Will he be divesting the multiple private jet trips each year to Bali and Phuket with supermodels? No? Didn’t think so.
Funny how he’s divesting from oil stocks at a time when they’re projected to be negative/flat for a while.
I’m sure the moron will secretly jump back into black gold under the radar as soon as it bottoms out and begins its ascent again. Thatll be around the time the peak oil cult will start babbling about no oil again.

Ok Leo, get rid of your cars, do not ride on airplanes, trains, or steamships. You need to either walk or ride a bicyle everywhere. And remember, not automotive vehicles in your movies.
