Watch this little girl defy security guards and get a hug from the Pope

Washington D.C., Sep 24, 2015 / 12:50 pm (CNA/EWTN News).- Sophie Cruz travelled from Los Angeles, across the United States, with her father and two uncles to try to hand a letter Pope Francis this week. Her dream came true on Wednesday when the popemobile stopped for the child, and she was given the most tender embrace of the day.

While Pope Francis paraded on his popemobile toward the National Mall in Washington, D.C., Sept. 23, Cruz, 5, jumped a security barrier and was soon stopped by security agents.

But Pope Francis saw her and motioned for the agents to bring her to him. She was carried over to the Roman Pontiff, who gave her a hug, a kiss, and a blessing.

Cruz in turn gave Francis a letter she wrote, as well as the yellow T-shirt worn by the immigration reform advocacy group to which her father and uncles belong. She also included a drawing of Pope Francis joining hands with herself and other children, with a message in Spanish that reads: “My friends and I love each other no matter the color of our skin.”

Pope kisses a girl during the parade and this is the lucky girl Sophia Cruz

Cruz later recited the letter’s contents, which she had memorized in English and Spanish, for reporters from The Guardian.

“I want to tell you that my heart is sad,” Cruz began. “I would like to ask you to speak with the president and the Congress in legalizing my parents, because every day I am scared that one day they will take them away from me.”

She mentioned the hard farm and factory work immigrants do, and concluded, “All immigrants just like my dad help feed this country. They deserve to live with dignity. They deserve to live with respect. They deserve an immigration reform.”

Cruz told reporters, “I feel blessed and very moved because this blessing isn’t just for our family, it’s for all the immigrant families, all the Latin American families.”

Cruz was born in the United States, to parents who immigrated illegally from Oaxaca, Mexico.

Raúl Cruz, Sophie's father, told Telemundo, “We made a really long trip, a big sacrifice, we’re migrant parents. Thanks be to God, to the faith we have, and the dream that we had, we were able to give the Pope a letter so he would intercede for all the immigrants, not just Latinos or Mexicans, but from all the countries. We are all the children of God.”

The Cruz family were among a group of a dozen faithful who travelled from Our Lady, Queen of the Angels parish in Los Angeles to see the Pope in Washington, D.C.

As they hoped, Pope Francis has indeed advocated for immigrants while in the United States. The same day he met Sophie Cruz, he spoke to the country's bishops, praising them for their welcome of immigrants, “who continue to look to America, like so many others before them, in the hope of enjoying its blessings of freedom and prosperity.”

And in his Sept. 24 address to Congress, he said, “I am happy that America continues to be, for many, a land of dreams,” noting that many migrants have come to America with the desire to build and achieve their dream of a future in freedom.

“On this continent, too, thousands of persons are led to travel north in search of a better life for themselves and for their loved ones, in search of greater opportunities. Is this not what we want for our own children?”

The ones here today are not the immigrant workers that I knew 40 years ago. Those were welcomed int he rural area where I lived. they were damn good people, and polite. The busted their humps and had every intention of returning home when the summer ended, they were here for the money, nothing more, and they respected us and understood their status as a guest.

What we are seeing today is not immigrant workers, it's an invasion. Those Mexican workers I remember from years ago would never expect me to learn Spanish to cater to them. they would never demand rights, free housing, dare me to fly my own country's flag or wear it on a shirt during "their" holiday. they even policed themselves back then. they lived in small villages provided by the farmers who employed them. If one of them got out of line, the locals didn't have to say a word, that guy was never seen again... I assume sent back home and told to never return. They were really proud and did not like the idea that someone would tarnish their reputation or put their livelihood at risk. There were no drugs, stealing or general debauchery. And.. the fact was, there weren't enough locals around to do the work, hiring these people was a necessity. Unemployment wasn't at 15% like it is now.

Point is, these people that we are seeing now aren't immigrants like the ones we want. These are the ones who have nothing to offer and expect to take anything they want. they aren't coming here because of what America is, they are coming here because they want to take what America has; and they have no intentions of assimilating. They have every intention of overtaking and making this place the same as the one they left.

Now I know as well as everyone, there are exceptions to this generalization. But it is no longer the norm, it is the exception. it's just not the same as it was so many years ago.

“It is what it is, and I don’t know the solution for the situation.”

and you’ll see the work ethic return.....

“Defy ? This was planned”.

Exactly.
The little girl handed the pope a note saying she didn’t want ICE to deport her family. Heart warming moment my ass.

>> A pantload. And like how the little Mexican broke through a line of security because she wants to go somewhere she isn’t allowed. A nice metaphor for her family. <<

Heh. This "touching moment" was so scripted it should be nominated for Best Original Screenplay.

You know I hate this commie Pope but I hate that he’s bringing out these anti-Catholic loons who are saying garbage like “John Paul II was as wicked as the other antichrists, he tried to elevate Mary to co-equal status with Christ”.

Comparing JP2 to this guy is like comparing Reagan to Obama.

So how many more illegal aliens do you want to dig your FIOS ditches for you?
Should we allow in another 40 or 50 million?

I see these Guatemalans putting on new roofs where I live in the heat of the summer. I respect this but we have enough illegal aliens for the next 50 years

>> It was every bit as `spontaneous’ as Jackie Kennedy shoving toddler John-John out of line to salute his pappy. <<

My favorite was Clinton making sure to shown on camera coming out of church with a huge bible, looking "solemn", during Monicagate.

"I wonder if she would have received the same reception if she had been carrying a pencil box with a clock she built inside and just wanted to show it to the Pope."

Perfect!

Or Slick returning from graveside grinning like Harmonica Blewinsky was under his desk, but seeing the camera grimacing as if he caught Hillary climbing out of the tub.

Exactly. The anti-Catholic freepers are out in droves today to insult Catholic traditions, trash anyone who is a member of a Catholic Church, and insist we blindly agree with everything the Pope says or does.

They say they hate the Vatican because of its politics, but they hated Benedict XVI and JP II when they were Pope too (they're even pulling a page out of the liberal's "anti-war" playbook and now claiming they retroactively respected Benedict, when all they did at the time was post comments about "nazi pope" and memes comparing him to Darth Sideous)

I've been calling them out for their hypocrisy.

I worked for a landscaper once upon a time and can vouch that they are some incredibly hard workers. Most were great guys — helped me learn Spanish and were faultlessly humble and kind — but many were heavy drinkers, fooled around with prostitutes, and a few were violent. A handful I thought were truly after the American dream and understood and respected what America is about. The owner of the business had forty or fifty Mexicans housed on his property in mobile homes so I got to see a pretty good sample. Fake SS numbers seemed to be the norm. I have warm feelings towards Mexican immigrants in general based on that experience but I still think our immigration policy is suicidal. I’m taking a risk on Trump to straighten things out.

Symbolism before substance....

The Pope is a Leftist...I'm convinced.

Did he talk about God much..while here? Or did he bad mouth capitalism...and promote climate change hysterics.

The Pope should not be politic, but he was.

You can tell me all about hard working people...all day long. I've known many...I've dug ditches. Whites, blacks, red, brown...I've seen them all. Many have been good at their craft.

The problem is...ILLEGAL ALIENS!! Plain and simple...I do not care what their religion is. They ARE ILLEGALLY here!!

What part don't you understand about that?

Agreed. She is following in her illegal alien parent’s ways by illegally breaking through security and giving a phone letter (yeah right like she wrote that letter asking the pope to talk to the President of the US and congress.... Like she even knows what congress is).

The little girl traveled from Los Angeles. This is a Hollywood production. Give her an Academy award and a one way bus ticket to Tijuana.
