In a 3,404-word address, he used only 75 words on the two topics.
Pope Francis touched on many topics in his speech to Congress, but conservatives may have expected him to say more about abortion and same-sex marriage.
During his historic speech at a joint meeting of Congress on Thursday, Pope Francis hit upon a variety of issues that have defined the Catholic church: protecting the environment, helping the poor, addressing the plight of immigrants, abolishing the death penalty and taking a stand against the proliferation of the weapons trade, to name a few.
Yet, while the pope had strong words on many of these causes, he glossed over two other topics that American bishops have strongly lobbied against in recent years: abortion and same-sex marriage. In fact, he did not even mention them by name.

OMG! The big zero’s true nature is revealed, while standing next to the Pope.
At the risk of oversimplifying, we might say that we live in a culture which pressures young people not to start a family, because they lack possibilities for the future.
The quote I referenced, to which I would point out Democrat economic policies have prevailed lately. Also the Fed won't raise interest rates, the growing disparity between rich and poor; We'll see if Republican Candidates can pick-up on these clues...
No, it doesn't presume that the Holy Spirit has abandoned the Church. What is happening today, and during good or bad historical papacies as well, is totally under God's control. Just as He can bestow Grace upon peoples and nations, He can punish them and chastise His own Church as well. In other words, we, as members of His Church, are getting what we deserve. Now maybe you and I don't feel so deserving, but numerous bishops, priests and (no longer) faithful definitely are. This is the state of The Church and the world today. We can only pray that the Holy Spirit spares us a worse pontiff in the future and more severe chastisements for the nation and world.

He certainly doesn’t seem to believe Catholicism is the One True Church; in fact, like many in the American hierarchy, his sole purpose seems to be to deliver the Catholic vote to Democrats.
Never did say he would mention those things. He gave a speech as a head of state.
Yesterday, the Pope addressed US bishops and religious and DID talk about child sexual abuse (homosexuals) and abortion. In that speech, he was speaking as the Universal Pastor to his brother bishops.
A person can’t please everybody all of the time. The key is to recognize one’s expectations are not necessarily shared by another.
LOL
Did you do that graphic?
Good one.
A prophet speaks truth to power.
A politician speaks soothing words to power.
No - found it with Google
Seriously, some hard core Catholics may consider that sacrilegious but as a Catholic myself I do not at all. This Pope is an absolute fraud, he is not my Pope. He’s a fraud who has been bought off by the left. Just because he’s the Pope doesn’t mean I am going to buy into his sell of fascism, sodomy and Islamo-Nazism.
He’s one big mind-f%&k.
Why is the pope giving a speech to a joint session of Congress?
I think Boehner invited him. I’m not sure about that.
What did you expect from the Marxist Peronista Modernist HERETIC - Popey Frankey is nothing but a double talking, pablum spewing sock puppet.
It could be genius. I don’t know.
The Pope has brought secular humanist progressives to hear the word of God. Instead of thinking they are God.
Jesus was a little bit more insightful when the Pharisees tried to trick Him into infusing politics into His message.
13And they sent to him some of the Pharisees and some of the Herodians, to trap him in his talk. 14And they came and said to him, Teacher, we know that you are true and do not care about anyones opinion. For you are not swayed by appearances,c but truly teach the way of God. Is it lawful to pay taxes to Caesar, or not? Should we pay them, or should we not? 15But, knowing their hypocrisy, he said to them, Why put me to the test? Bring me a denariusd and let me look at it. 16And they brought one. And he said to them, Whose likeness and inscription is this? They said to him, Caesars. 17Jesus said to them, Render to Caesar the things that are Caesars, and to God the things that are Gods. And they marveled at him.
It doesn’t have quite the same ring to it as The secular progressives Gospel according to Al Gore:
16 render unto Solyndra the tax payer money that is Solyndra’s based on crony capitalism 17 and render unto UN delegates from poor countries a briefcase full of cash At the next luxury climate convention
JPII spent his whole life FIGHTING COMMUNISTS.
Now we have a communist as a pope.
Armageddon?
I’d expect to be shot on spot.
So, is that what the Pope is asking us to do?
Shoot on sight?
“gays, transgenders, etc.” Are welcome in the church and are families?
