In a 3,404-word address, he used only 75 words on the two topics.
Pope Francis touched on many topics in his speech to Congress, but conservatives may have expected him to say more about abortion and same-sex marriage.
During his historic speech at a joint meeting of Congress on Thursday, Pope Francis hit upon a variety of issues that have defined the Catholic church: protecting the environment, helping the poor, addressing the plight of immigrants, abolishing the death penalty and taking a stand against the proliferation of the weapons trade, to name a few.
Yet, while the pope had strong words on many of these causes, he glossed over two other topics that American bishops have strongly lobbied against in recent years: abortion and same-sex marriage. In fact, he did not even mention them by name.

No. We didn't.
We knew better than to expect that.
I think on of the main purposes of this papal visit is to shore up the Catholic vote for Biden.
We hoped. We prayed. We did not expect.
Don't go away mad, Pope Che. Just go away.
America must do unto others, what they would have others do unto us.
But that doesn’t apply to illegal aliens. They are trespassing, though they would not be trespassed against.
Mexico does not allow trespass, but they encourage it in their people.
Pope, to whom are you addressing your scriptural advice? All of us, or just we evil Americans?
Why do you not make it clear? Is vagueness your strength, so that all can read into your words what they will?
I’ve had enough of that with Obama.
i suppose nothing about selling the body parts of murdered fetuses??
what a brave man of God...

Uhhh,, how about saving souls? Fighting corruption wherever and whenever you see it? Calling evil evil.. and a hoax a hoax?
That would have made Boehner weep a river..
I consider myself to be a conservative since the days of Barry Goldwater. I never expected ANYTHING from this Pope. I didn’t expect him to show up in Congress. Surprised the ACLU didn’t PEE their pants.
America’s worst President and Congress meets the world’s worst ever Pope. What could possibly go wrong?
This Pope is a Socialist first.....everything else in his demeanor starts from there.
Conservatives expected nothing.
And that’s exactly what we got.
Nothing about baby parts.
Nothing about forcing Catholics to violate their religion via contraceptives and abortifacients.
True. I listened and watched his “speak”.... it was shallow, banal and full enough of platitudes to have been prepared for Obama. The Press loved it.
What are those things covering the words?
It’s pretty obvious, at least to me, that the pope’s speech was either written by Obama’s speech writers....
or by Obama himself.
