The most political show on television today involves shambling ghouls that feed on human flesh and the meat puppets who try to avoid being feasted upon. Fear the Walking Dead, the Walking Dead spin-off set at the beginning of the zombie outbreak, offers us a view of the liberal, sensitive type of people who put Obama into office and probably inadvertently demonstrates the utter moral and intellectual bankruptcy of everything they believe in.
Modern liberalism is an unfortunate byproduct of civilization. The fact that our lives are not largely devoted to hunting and gathering food and fighting off marauders who would rape, enslave, and/or kill us, allows a large segment of our society to forget that this is the natural state of man. You didnt have liberals in the Dark Ages because a liberal would last about ten seconds, expiring with a spear through his guts after telling the local warlord that he disapproved of this patriarchal, phallocentric, cisnormative power structure.
Now, of course a substantial number of Americans pay tribute to humanitys past by understanding human nature and often by preparing to confront the forces of chaos. These people are conservatives. We conservatives expect problems, and expect that we will have to solve them ourselves. We generally know how to hunt, to gather food, and we have guns and know how to use them. And we understand that society always always teeters on the edge of falling apart.

Don’t. Just get far away from Rick’s group, then take a pick of any nice big house, clear zombies, law on couch and wait for next ebt cycle... Oh, shazam
"Fear the Living Imbeciles"!
The main characters are ALL highly unlikable and just plain stupid. In spite of the show's premise that no one has any concept of "zombies", the main character's responses, reactions and attitudes towards what they have witnessed first-hand on numerous occasions concerning the dead/infected are utterly unnatural and down right ludicrous. Just read the blogs, they are full of examples of how stupid and ridiculous these characters are acting.
The ONLY person who has a clue about what is happening is "Nerd Zit Knife Boy". He gets it, he understands to a certain degree what is happening, what is coming and how to prepare, defend and ride it out. He warns "Wise Guidance Counselor Lady" (one of THE MAIN CHARACTERS) TWICE about what is happening; once BEFORE she sees the infected "walking dead" doing their thing and then he warns her AGAIN IN DETAIL AFTER SHE HAS TWICE SEEN what the infected, dead walkers do once they are infected and reanimated. He warns her the second time right after they both have an encounter with dead, infected "Principal Bite Me"; who she eventually kills BECAUSE HE IS WILDLY FROTHING AT THE MOUTH AND TRYING TO EAT HER! Now, any normal functioning human being would logically come to the following conclusions after experiencing such events:
"'Nerd Zit Knife Boy' previously warned me about what was happening; I have seen this for myself TWICE! He Has warned me AGAIN and told me what is coming, how to prepare and how to survive: 'Nerd Zit Knife Boy' KNOWS (to a certain degree) what is happening, what we need to do in order to prepare and what my family needs to do in order to SURVIVE; 'Nerd Zit Knife Boy' is an exceptional asset who is vital to our very survival; he has told me his entire family is out of town and he has no idea if or when they will (if ever) return and he is all alone with no one to look after him; THEREFORE I SHOULD TAKE HIM HOME WITH ME." Under the circumstances any normal human being would reasonably think this way and come to this obvious conclision, especially after what she has just experienced AGAIN first hand. But, does "Wise Guidance Counselor Lady" do ths? NO! She proceeds to drive "Nerd Zit Knife Boy" home, where she drops him off to face his unenviable, inevitable "fate" on his own. However, the show's inept writers did have the foresight to make sure that she asked him: "are out going to be alright?" To which he timidly answers "yes (until I get over run and eaten by zombies [opps I used the dreded "Z" word])".
Frankly, at this point, I am rooting for the walker "zombies" (darn it, I just said the dreaded "Z" word again) to kill, eat or infect ALL of the main characters so that the ENTIRE, DISFUNCTIONAL, CAST DIES OFF and the show then focuses on an entirely new set of strong main characters, somewhere else in the city who have a modicum of common sense and act like normal, REASONING human beings would conduct themselves under the circumstances! "Nerd Zit Knife Boy" would be a prime candidate for the new main cast since he's the ONLY character in the entire mess of a series who has got a clue!:
"Go Nerd Zit Knife Boy!"
The show's producers should also fire ALL of the writers because they don't know what the heck they are doing, or how NORMAL people would act or respond in the midst of a deady, viral, apocalyptic epidemic of this magnitude, especially if they have witnessed what is taking place for themselves!
The show is terrible; however there are numerous people who have been making all sorts of lame excuses for the utter ineptitude (and unlikability) of all the main characters in the vain hope that "things will get better". <> As I said previously; the only way FTWD can "get better" is if the entire cast of main characters get infected and dies off and the series reboots with an entirely new cast, because at this point the existing cast is so unlikable and down right stupid the majority of the audience doesn't care if they live or die to the point that many are rooting for the Zombies, opps, I mean "Walkers".
Statistically speaking the probability is that absent the police to keep the urban black neighborhoods under control that those folks likely killed each other as their world unraveled around them. They have little to no sense of community so they're unlikely to band together for survival and of the gangs that would be most likely to persevere they're also likely to turn on their own at the drop of a pin.
Granted, there are exceptions. Hopefully we'll see some as the show develops.
If a situation occurs where someone will kill you because you have a firearm then kill them first. Period.
“Day By Day Armageddon” by J.L. Bourne is also a very good SHTF zombie series. I believe Travis McGee told me about it.
In a manner of speaking...
Only you can be the judge of that......
This could be problematic if there are a dozen of them in full combat gear and all you have is a pistol.
How is this different than how republicans living in a city would handle it? No one knows what's going on. Would conservatives automatically go out shooting people? Would they instinctively know there is an apocalyptic virus that causes people to die, come back and each humans?
Sheesh!
Yea folks need to get a grip. Of course the characters, most of them anyway, are Liberal. They live in L.A.! Mom finally went all conservative on her druggie son though. Finally.
There’s not gonna be any loving the Zombies until they see the light. The characters will either wise up or be Zombie food shortly.
Actually I think the writers, and even both shows, show the fallacy of Liberalism. Intended or not.
And man’s inhumanity to man.
Yep I read that one. Not bad. He has a new one out that I have in my queue to read. I think it is called “Tomorrow War”
I don't think it shows us anything in this regard that wasn't pretty obvious already. I always figured a virus broke out, dead people starting turning into zombies, the urban areas turned into combat zones, the military gets involved but can't stop the outbreak. That's how I always figured it went down and that's pretty much all we've learned in this series.
Westerns are set in the time before society had police, cars, 911, telephones, etc., in order to isolate the characters in a situation where their morality is tested. They can't call for help in order to get out of their situation, they have to find a way to deal with it.
In the Walking Dead, America has reverted to a pre-colonial era, where the survivors are the various native tribes.
I had not viewed it this way but spot on. (I have been through some trauma- and natural disasters- and am always very quick to sense when things are off and react very quickly in traumatic situations).
We live in a society exquisitely dependent on science and technology, in which hardly anyone knows anything about science and technology.

What I see in this thread
is a whole lot of posters
who don’t allow for the fact
that TWD and FTWD are set
in different stages of the zombie
apocalypse. How does it go? A
conservative is a former liberal
who has been mugged or something
like that.
I concur, love the original but I am pulling for the zombies to finish off this sad bunch quickly except for the old mexican guy that finished off a zombie with and over and under shotty.
Cool. Maybe the character will go all "Queequeg".
Speaking only for myself, but this is kind of like watching liberals getting mugged in slow motion...
;-)
