MADISON, Wis. (AP) Warning the GOP's presidential race has become too nasty, Scott Walker suspended his 2016 campaign on Monday and called on some of his Republican rivals to do the same, citing an urgent need to "clear the field" to help defeat GOP front-runner Donald Trump.
"Today, I believe that I am being called to lead by helping to clear the field in this race so that a positive conservative message can rise to the top of the field. With that in mind, I will suspend my campaign immediately," Walker said in a Madison press conference.

I do agree with Walker that Republicans need to “clear the field” so that we can have a “positive conservative alternative to the current front-runner”.
That’s why I think the others should drop out, just as he says, so that we can offer Trump as a “positive CONSERVATIVE alternative” to the current front-runner (i.e., Hillary).
Absolutely.
Damn shame and very classless. I’m sorry I endorsed his being drafted for President in 2012.
What a stupid stupid way to exit the campaign. He wipes his feet on his own reputation and makes needless enemies all across the country. It is so bad that it makes one wonder just what conversations he had with the RNC about his future.
What Walker actually said: "Today, I believe that I am being called to lead by helping to clear the field in this race so that a positive conservative message can rise to the top of the field. With that in mind, I will suspend my campaign immediately,"
A wee bit of editorializing by our unbiased Media buds... (aka, a cancer on America).
Did he think it would be the land of milk and honey once he won the nomination?
Just not sure why such a fighter, a strong guy apparently, feels the needs to whine like this. Sorta doesn’t make sense.
Walker just outed himself as a full fledged POS. Here’s Trump’s statememt. Donald plays tough but is classy when he wins.

When this race started, Walker was in my top 3 tier and gradually lost me. Now, he’s lost me forever - it was a nasty thing to say about Trump and classless. Perry did the same thing. Bunch of bitter RINOs.
I have yet to read where he differs with the Republican Establishment on any major issues.
His GOPe masters have him on a short chain with a shock collar around his neck.
Now, we know why his team let the NY Slimes have the scoop on his withdrawal.
Walker stays in Wisconsin waiting for George Will and Kristol to call him. Walker will have a long lonely wait in cold Wischeese Head Land.
somebody must have recalculated the needed number of vote splitters.
Walker, apparently, hasn’t figured out the “pissed off” part of the electorate.
Walker was playing by the old rules. The old rules were thrown out by the establishment some time ago. The people are getting around to doing the same. Changing the rules in a manner that suits them.
He missed the signs of “The Pending Storm” (an excellent essay here and there- look it up if you haven’t seen it). Trump didn’t. I think he’s just as pissed about it as we are.
Why else would he being doing this on “his” dime?
Mr. Walker:
Feel free to throw your support to someone!
Barring chicanery, fraud, or violence, there is a damn good chance for Trump to carry this home, especially given his ability to draw voters from the other side, which we have not seen since the Reagan era. Things like this, or the pitiful yapping by Jindal, pretty much just exclude the bitter pygmies from any meaningful involvement in the next administration. I was very disappointed with Jindal, as he was a superb support for Governor Mike Foster.
Oh well. The Geriatric Old Plotters excel at that wormtongue business.
Trump had earlier sent out a tweet about Walker saying nice things about him and he does this?
Yeah....and some claim Trump is the one with no class.
Trump and Cruz have offered friendly words to Walker, today.
Wow. What a scumbag. I just heard his speech. He all but endorsed Jebacita.
I withdraw my speculation that he would be a good Secretary of Labor.
He is and should remain a good governor of Wisconsin.
Goodbye and so long.
The unions are breaking out the Champagne, the really expensive stuff, since someone else will pay for it. Someone is clearing the Republican field of anyone who has a chance of beating Hillary.
remember the original strategy was to split the base up enough to allow jbush’s 20% to be enough. Walker and Perry were to receive some sort of “job security” in return.
Another idiot who will take his dolly, supporters, and cash and ignore Trump if he ends up being the candidate. In for himself, like Bush, Christie, and the rest of the RINO select group.
