Wisconsin's Walker exits '16 race with harsh words for Trump

MADISON, Wis. (AP) — Warning the GOP's presidential race has become too nasty, Scott Walker suspended his 2016 campaign on Monday and called on some of his Republican rivals to do the same, citing an urgent need to "clear the field" to help defeat GOP front-runner Donald Trump.

"Today, I believe that I am being called to lead by helping to clear the field in this race so that a positive conservative message can rise to the top of the field. With that in mind, I will suspend my campaign immediately," Walker said in a Madison press conference.

quote
“I encourage other Republican presidential candidates to consider doing the same so the voters can focus on a limited number of candidates who can offer a positive conservative alternative to the current front-runner.”

sounds pretty personal and yes didn’t mention his name. was that just an omission or cowardice so he couldn’t be quoted to use the actual name of Trump? sounds like a typical politician’s attack.

It is probably camouflaged as “clearing the field for a conservative front runner”. The “a front runner” is the give away. If he meant Trump, he would have said “the front runner”.

Seems to me that Trump is the one with the positive conservative message: no to PC; build a wall, deport illegals, support for the 2nd Amendment, jail Hillary and beat ISIS.

The personal attacks that Walker bemoans did not start with Trump, but Trump finishes them, in typical NYC style. Walker participated, probably at the behest of the GOP-E.

Maybe that is not how they play in the Midwest.

I thought Walker was a better man, but as his campaign wore on he seemed to more and more a GOP-E puppet.

He could learn a thing or two from Trump about being his own man.

There are NO liberal positions in Trump’s book published in 2011, “Time to get tough”. Read it, learn something current about his positions, then we can have an intelligent debate.

Right you are!!! I liked Scott Walker and if was aggressive and was worth a few billion maybe he would still be a contender. But you are right. You can see his donors calling the shots on Walkers immigration stances.

Sad that a courageous guy got off track and lost his way. Good job, what, 5 years ago?

Well, I disagree with you given his past support of Ronald Reagan - not only his - but, his dad was a huge supporter. Trump also flew Ronald Reagan in his private jet to Albany, NY so that he could get on the ballot in time. These are things people don’t know. I think he’s more conservative than not. Just like the others. People think Cruz is 100% conservative - I disagree with that - he is in favor of increasing H-1B visas - which isn’t a conservative view.

I did not know about Trump’s past support of Reagan. Interesting!

I am very disappointed in Cruz position on H-1B Visas—has he said anything recently to indicate movement away from quadrupling+ them?

Perry did the same thing when he dropped out.
My hypothesis: Both men’s campaigns were in the red and they were given an exit script by the GOPe. In exchange for reading this script for their exit speech they were promised to have their campaign debts retired.

Trump supporters are racists.

We've all been caused "racist" (whether or not we think Trump is the guy for the job) for so little for so long, my give-a-damn is broken. Let 'em bray.

Between Trump’s criticisms and Walker’s sunshine pumping, the truth regarding Wisconsin is probably somewhere in the middle.

He took the devil’s candy of DC GOPe consultants who turned him into an indecisive wimp. He chose poorly.

They were out to sink him from the start, too.

The entire native people’s of Europe are currently bending over in orange jumpsuits with blades to their throats and they are still being smeared as racist.

It no longer matters. This is life or death now.

Trump is not a conservative

That is statement with zero evidence. Read his book written in 2011, "Time to get Tough". Trump is saying exactly the same things today which he wrote in 2011. Very consistent! I was a democrat in my 20's. Ronald Reagan was a union activist democrat once. So what? All intelligent people mature, evolve and change. It is what we think today is what counts, not from many years back.

Trump seems to be able to fight the media better than others. You know why? Because he has no rich donors yanking his chains. Trump can speak non-PC without fear of rich donors abandoning him.

Its all free face time when they talk about his latest goofy idea or pronouncement.

what are the goofy ideas? i’ve read his position papers on immigration and 2nd amendment. both are excellent. he wants to abolish obamacare?
