MADISON, Wis. (AP) Warning the GOP's presidential race has become too nasty, Scott Walker suspended his 2016 campaign on Monday and called on some of his Republican rivals to do the same, citing an urgent need to "clear the field" to help defeat GOP front-runner Donald Trump.
"Today, I believe that I am being called to lead by helping to clear the field in this race so that a positive conservative message can rise to the top of the field. With that in mind, I will suspend my campaign immediately," Walker said in a Madison press conference.

Yes. I think he’s got the mentality of a five-year-old.
May be not that advanced, though.
“Someone is clearing the Republican field of anyone who has a chance of beating Hillary.”
You mean like Walker with his .5% support amongst REPUBLICAN voters? And Perry with his zero percent?
Doesn't matter...the boo birds aren't interested.
“Which means that the GOPe has decided it will be easier to get rid of Trump by getting Jeb the votes of the back of the pack guys. Look for Linda, Pataki and Gilmore to drop out so Jeb can get to double digits.”
I think not. Walker, Perry, Linda, Pataki and Gilmore poll, combined, under 2%. Even, if Yeb got all of that, he’d still likely be in the single digits.
The principle issue with SB1070 and United States v. Arizona was what authority states had to enforce federal immigration law. Rightly or wrongly SCOTUS determined that federal preemption rules. So how is it that Trump, as President of the United States and head of the federal government responsible for enforcing immigration law would have to check with SCOTUS before exercising his constitutional authority?
Oh sure, we can say, "Yeah but what about all the lawsuits from La Raza and the rest of their guilty white liberal co-conspirators?" I submit to you that it doesn't matter because the principle has been upheld that the President decides immigration enforcement priorities. The problem has always been the person exercising such authority.
The ultimate question then is: do you believe Trump?
I haven't said a lot about Scott Walker (even though I've watched his career from "across the Rhine") other than that he had become WAY too chummy with the Wisconsin wing of the GOP-e (Reince Priebus, Paul Ryan, etc). I know that the relationship was imperative in order to survive the absolute evil unleashed on him by the Democrats in that state, but in running for a national office, he really needed to put some distance between he and the party "floaters" who continually pull defeat out of the jaws of victory. That he did not do, and I suspect that he got absolutely horrible advice from people who specialize in same, and he's still not able to come to grips with it.
As for his wish, sorry Scott. Whatever Trump may or may not be, he's no politician, and better yet, he's no politician in the mold of McConnell, Boehner, Graham, McCain, Hatch, Cornyn or any one of the influence peddling Bushes. Those people are proven traitors to liberty, yet you wouldn't say "boo" to any of them, Governor. You seem to be cool fine the status quo and have decided the low road is the path to take. Regrettable.

If you oppose the con man you’re a GOPE RINO period, got it. Don’t agree, at all. False dichotomy that can easily be applied to anyone like yourself that didn’t back the RINO in the last general election. There are more than 2 sides, Trump is his own side.
I get the Trump thing, I do. But I can’t turn off my brain and pretend I believe he’s on our side. Can’t do it.
Hah, here is something to make you laugh:
My notoriously liberal coworker posted up on our group chat, first thing Friday morning, that Ted says Obamalamadingdong is not American, and he is a Muslim.
I repeatedly begged him for a link, some evidence Ted had said this, he kept making excuses.
I think the whole exchange was not lost on my peeps at work. Yeah, I’m a hardheaded Conservative who cares more about guns than “women’s health care” (that is abortion, for you non-libturds).
I had a good afternoon that day :)
Very good post...
Trump is proving that the ordinary citizen is not suppose to run for POTUS. I like both Trump and Cruz. I think they both knew that they were in for a big battle going against the political class/ establishment (GOP & DNC) or as Cruz describes them the “cartel”. Maybe that’s what they talked about.
I think some of the bitterness is partly due to the GOPe thinking they were going to have an easy run at it and that they were going to set up the GOPe administration with some of the other candidates that are currently running as pay back for doing their bidding. The GOPe is bitter no doubt.
“But don’t try to make him into a principled conservative”
Except that there are NO principled conservatives in the rest of the lot either. Cruz is by far the closest thing, but he’s still in favor of essentially unlimited H1B visas.
“did all of walkers support go to Fiorina or carson?”
Like all .5%?
Perhaps Walker was unable to conceal his distaste of Trump any longer and couldn’t bite his tongue, but this was not a good way for him to go out.
“the GOPe must need walker out in order to clear the IOWA caucus jbush strategy.”
Right. Because Walker’s .5% is going to make all the difference in the world to Jeb’s 7%.
Bush is bitter about Trump knocking him out of 1st place.
FioRINO will attack her mother if that helps her win nomination.
Linda is bitter for same reasons as Perry.
Rubio has attacked Trump with Xenophobia against Hispanics which is obviously a lie. Trump has issue only with illegals, and they are not all Hispanics.
Cruz, Carson, Santorum, Kasich & Huckster are staying out of attacking other candidates. I commend them.
It is possible that Trump would do more for conservatism than any President since Reagan simply by enforcing our immigration laws.
Consider for a second that demographics decide our nations future. When we bring in immigrants who outproduce native Americans by a wide margin and they vote for benefits by a wide margin the writing is on the wall. Conservatives are losing because we can not get our message out to new Americans or first generation Americans - that is done by public schools, the media, and higher education.
Just throwing that out there. I agree with others that Trump is certainly not the most conservative candidate, but at some point we have to stop the bleeding before we can get the rest of the house in order.
Walker was my first favorite horse in this race for a long time. He’s a plodding calculator, much like Nixon was, but in the day and age of the Internet and Cell phones, you just have to be quicker and more decisive.
It’s generally better to be wrong than indecisive and all I saw from Walker was indecisiveness. A big Choke at the big leagues.
The candidates who have been quiet and hands off Trump are the smart ones.
Trump has destroyed the GOPe plan to split the conservative vote to get Jeb elected.
So now they are one by one telling their straw men to stand down hoping their support will drift to Jeb.
The Donald is classy there. I love the Dee Snider song as his theme.
“Warning the GOP’s presidential race has become too nasty”
Good to know now before he’s confronted with the world’s worst actors.
Does Walker even realize how weak and pathetic he sounds?
