It would be unconstitutional to disqualify a Muslim from the presidency because of religion, Republican presidential candidate Ted Cruz said Sunday.
You know, the Constitution specifies there shall be no religious test for public office and I am a constitutionalist, the Texas senator said during the taping of Iowa Press at Iowa Public Television.
Cruz was about Ben Carsons televised statement that Islam is inconsistent with the U.S. Constitution. I would not advocate that we put a Muslim in charge of this nation. I absolutely would not agree with that, Carson said on NBCs Meet the Press.
Cruz also referred to the ongoing controversy raised in the media over whether Donald Trump should have corrected a man who incorrectly stated at a rally that President Obama is a Muslim and not an American. My view, listen. The presidents faith is between him and God. What Im going to focus on is his public policy record, Cruz said.
One area in which Cruz did not mind excluding Muslims, however, was from the ranks of refugees from Syria seeking asylum in the United States. He said they should settle in other Middle Eastern countries, citing concerns that some of the purported refugees may actually be terrorists.
I think the Christians are a very different circumstance because Christians are being persecuted, they are being persecuted directly for their faith and the Obama administration has abandoned Middle East Christians, Cruz said.
Several other Republican presidential candidates weighed in on the issue of Syrian refugees Saturday during a forum in Des Moines. Mike Huckabee agreed with Cruz that the U.S. should exclude Muslim refugees but accept Christians. Rick Santorum argued that even the Christians should be assisted in the region so they can return home when the violence ends.
Following his visit at Iowa Public Television, Cruz visited with restaurant-goers at the Machine Shed Restaurant in Urbandale for more light-hearted discussions while Iowans enjoyed their morning brunch.
Mr Cruz doesnt say that he LIKES the CONCEPTS of Islime..or most of its adherants..he simply said..... what he said.
Yes we KNOW a muslime who’s engaged in a great deal of unconstitutional crap.. but his membership in that cult....doesn’t prohibit him form being POTUS...and the FAILURE of the common sense of the bozos who voted for him isnt the fault of the Constitution or Ted Crus
Nxt
Ted couldn’t resist.
Not is you vied Islam as a terroristic blood cult, a political, economic, social and legal system for conquest and subjugation and not a religion.
The voters can apply any test they like to any office on any level of government.
There are no limits on a voter’s discrimination whatsoever.
You are right on th money. What Senator cruz stated has already happened. POTUS Barack Hussein Obama is a Muslim...and a radical one at that!!!
Neither is sommunism but we still let communists vote ....and run for office.
compatible with...... and protected under are two different animals
I’m pretty sure none of the founders could imagine muslims in America
John Quincy Adams on Islam
In the seventh century of the Christian era, a wandering Arab of the lineage of Hagar, the Egyptian, combining the powers of transcendent genius, with the preternatural energy of a fanatic, and the fraudulent spirit of an impostor, proclaimed himself as a messenger from Heaven, and spread desolation and delusion over an extensive portion of the earth. Adopting from the sublime conception of the Mosaic law, the doctrine of one omnipotent God; he connected indissolubly with it, the audacious falsehood, that he was himself his prophet and apostle. Adopting from the new Revelation of Jesus, the faith and hope of immortal life, and of future retribution, he humbled it to the dust, by adapting all the rewards and sanctions of his religion to the gratification of the sexual passion. He poisoned the sources of human felicity at the fountain, by degrading the condition of the female sex, and the allowance of polygamy; and he declared undistinguishing and exterminating war, as a part of his religion, against all the rest of mankind. THE ESSENCE OF HIS DOCTRINE WAS VIOLENCE AND LUST: TO EXALT THE BRUTAL OVER THE SPIRITUAL PART OF HUMAN NATURE.
Between these two religions, thus contrasted in their characters, a war of twelve hundred years has already raged. That war is yet flagrant; nor can it cease but by the extinction of that imposture, which has been permitted by Providence to prolong the degeneracy of man. While the merciless and dissolute dogmas of the false prophet shall furnish motives to human action, there can never be peace upon earth, and good will towards men. The hand of Ishmael will be against every man, and every mans hand against him. It is, indeed, amongst the mysterious dealings of God, that this delusion should have been suffered for so many ages, and during so many generations of human kind, to prevail over the doctrines of the meek and peaceful and benevolent Jesus (Blunt, 1830, 29:269, capitals in orig.).
He’s right. It would be incumbent upon the American people not to elect someone who follows that cult. I don’t have such faith in the American people.
If Ted is a Constitutionalist, he should be well aware the U. S. Citizen can use any and all information to make a determination who to vote for.
No, it shall not be prescribed by law that an Islamic adherent can't be president, but there is nothing wrong at all with Carson's statement. Carson didn't advocate for that.
I would not advocate that we put a Muslim in charge of this nation. I absolutely would not agree with that, Carson said on NBCs "Meet the Press".
Carson was right, and Cruz fell off point.
It isn’t if the person cannot faithfully execute their duties because they have loyalty to Islam first.
What secret agreement did Cruz vote for?
Exactly.
Cruz’s response was off point IMO.
Why do some people want to change the U.S. by implementing Muslim policies in order to combat Islam? That makes no sense to me.
the cult and practice of Islam need to be banned , by law(s), from the United States of America . Constitutional amendments need to be made that redefine what is a ‘religion’ and what is a ‘cult ‘ and thus not protected by 1st Amendment rights . A further amendment needs to be made defining any such murder, enslavement and martyrdom cults as ‘existential threats’ to the United States ( culture and people) and thus their observance , practice and dissemination be banned and outlawed . Further requiring that all such places of practice and cult veneration be also banned and dismantled and no longer permitted to be built .
Per U.S. citizenship ; As it used to be a visa and citizenship oath requirement , all those applying for U.S. citizenship should be made to swear that they are not a member the Islamic cult , nor have or hold any allegiance to the same abroad . Those formerly holding such veneration and allegiance domestically , should be asked to forswear any such prior affiliations and reform or convert to some other religious belief , or if not willing be compelled to self-deport . Along with their entire families , and any among them that are unwilling to forswear previous allegiances and loyalties .
Yes, technically it is. There can be no religious test. But the candidate must defend the Constitution and all Carson is saying is that he does not believe a Muslim could do that. Agree or not, Carson is essentially trying to defend the Constitution. Clearly he will be bashed endlessly for it, but he has a point.
That said, I prefer Cruz to Carson.
focus on is his public policy record, Cruz said.
Nough said. The media is enjoying making issues.
Please educate this fool, and enumerate the incompatibilities.
becasue “we” want to pick apart Ted Cruz...and show UNTIY and Support for the Presumptive Candidate from NYC. even if “we jave to go so far as to reframe what he in fact said...and lay the groundwork to claim that he said what he did not in fact say.
he didnt say he embraced ISLAM or ISLAMICS....or much CARED for islam at all....byt thays not what some want to BELIEVE....BELIVVE I say that he meant.
The responses on this thread are astounding. No reading comprehension, no understanding of simple sentences. Pathetic.
LIVs are definitely on both sides of the spectrum.
He should have kept his mouth shut. I’m a great admirer of Senator Cruz but, for me, he just stepped in it. Bringing up Muslims at all wasn’t necessary and wasn’t smart.
