Donald Trump on Saturday responded to a question from CNN about whether Muslims pose a danger to the country, saying: "I love the Muslims. I think they're great people."
The Republican presidential front-runner made the comment after addressing high school students here at their homecoming Saturday night.
During a question-and-answer session with students, Trump was unable to avoid being asked about the latest political controversy dogging his campaign: his decision not to correct a supporter this week who called President Barack Obama a Muslim.
One student told Trump that she considered Muslim-Americans to be an important segment of the country. They asked whether the billionaire businessman would consider putting a Muslim in his Cabinet or on his ticket.
"Oh, absolutely," Trump responded. "No problem with that."

For the third time, it was a group of HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS!!!
Most critical step is to be very stringent on which Muslims are admitted as legal immigrants or even on temporary visa’s. My understanding is Obama admin is admitting 300,000 Muslims on immigrant visa’s every year.
Again... this really looks like a secularist Trump who distinguishes between “ordinary Islam” and “Islamic terrorism.” If asked if he loves the second, the answer would of course be “HELL no.”
Looking deeper at the situation, these boundaries are not as clear. It’s easy to push an “ordinary Muslim” over that edge. But if you want someone to deal with this phenomenon, it will have to be someone who reports to Trump. One way to deal with it is like Singapore dealt with it, which was to be harsh and strict. There is not much room for Islam to grow into serious mischief there. However most Americans would not tolerate a regime like this.
The best answer on earth is probably going to be evangelists. If Trump is willing to stand back while evangelists in America press for Muslims in America to become believing Christians, that is perhaps the best that can be hoped.
Actually I get the impression that if Trump got confronted by CAIR he would call them whiners and ignore them. He’d repeat his platitude about “Muslims being great people” (and it’s more “great” to not give yourself to terrorism than the alternative) and then go on his business, controlling the agenda rather than letting the agenda control him.
That kind of slop has to stop. There are a lot of practical, “religion-blind” things that could be done on that front. It’s because Obama is kissing up to the trouble-maker facet of the Islamic faith (”clock boy” is an excellent case in point) that we are having these problems now. Trump would be more like, I do not care if you are a Green Martian, there are certain criteria that must be met.
Took the words out of my mouth Catsrus, but I couldn’t find a way to say it as eloquently as you:)I look at how, before Jesus, the people of our God were slaughtering villages, owning slaves, sacrificing animals, stoning people to death, etc. I mean look at the Old Testament. Difference is we have Jesus. They don’t:(
And if he took a sh*t on stage, you’d tell me it’s merely modern art.
That’s you talking, not me, and not anything Trump has done.
Doncha know Walker and Cruz supporters were dreaming of beating Bush? They were both close behind Bush in polls. and from no where this never elected Billionaire appears and the dream is fading fast. Hell hath no fury like a politician supporter scorned.
Acknowledging that he loves people even if they happen to be Muslim and answering in a way that shows he’s not, at least openly, a religious bigot is being a “politically correct liberal?”
Do you understand that anyone who becomes president of this country is going to preside over people of many different religions, races, and culture? We already have a divisive one right now. You can fight against extremism and terrorism without denouncing a whole bunch of people who’ve yet to do anything wrong. They aren’t going away. God will sort it out in the end. It’s not Trump’s fight.
Exactly my view point of how Trump would deal with immigration. He has already said many times he is more for highly skilled immigrants over others.
While the devil is in the details, we could do a lot worse with the generalities.
Trump would see no contradiction between a hypothetical statement that “Mexicans are great people” and “I don’t want Mexicans flooding into the USA making trouble, and those who have, must go.” He is a broad brush guy, sometimes seeing different strokes in different takes. Somehow this lack of microscopic precision has still served to help him become a real estate deal mogul who has increased his fortune by several orders of magnitude. He understands (or is willing to learn) what counts, when push comes to shove.
If he does something similar in the situation of Islamoterrorism... the problem WILL be taken care of in America and a lot better than GWB took care of it, too.
I understand your frustration. I have it as well, but we are to be wise as serpents and gentle as doves. Because just as there are many who call themselves Christian but don’t follow Christ’s teachings, there are many Muslims in the world who don’t take literally everything their prophet spoke of either. Part of our Bible has instruction to the people of the time to slaughter, stone, condones slaves, sacrifice animals. Thank goodness we have Jesus who came and did away with all that. Pray they can find the way, truth and light as well.
He said they were "great people." That's just absurd. He can love his enemies and hope they find Christ, but saying that they are great people is just plain stupid.
What line do you draw, if not a theological one?
The line of the majority conduct? The majority conduct of Islam in the USA hasn’t been to conduct violent jihads.
The line of anything at a higher rate than the norm? Black America has been giving us a lot more death in America than Islam has, even counting 9/11.
Having it both ways again. Maybe politics is his bag.
He really should have said “some” or even “most”. I take it this wasn’t a question he had rehearsed an answer for, and/or wasn’t the time or place to expound upon the issue further. I am sure he has openly denounced radical Muslim extremism.
OMG!!! Sad, but probably right!
LOL...you keep wishing.
Given that, I believe he has no holdings in muslim lands.
