Donald Trump on Saturday responded to a question from CNN about whether Muslims pose a danger to the country, saying: "I love the Muslims. I think they're great people."
The Republican presidential front-runner made the comment after addressing high school students here at their homecoming Saturday night.
During a question-and-answer session with students, Trump was unable to avoid being asked about the latest political controversy dogging his campaign: his decision not to correct a supporter this week who called President Barack Obama a Muslim.
One student told Trump that she considered Muslim-Americans to be an important segment of the country. They asked whether the billionaire businessman would consider putting a Muslim in his Cabinet or on his ticket.
"Oh, absolutely," Trump responded. "No problem with that."

I have no idea what you just said.
Islam is the problem. Not every individual born into is.
I stand by my statement — Islam is an evil, murderous cult.
The world would be a safer place had we not accepted it as a legitimate “religion.”
Islam offends me daily.
In a worldly sense... they’re better than they could be in principle, which would be an entire world of them dissolving into ISIS grade rabidness. And he’s expressed very little patience with ISIS or terrorists.
Will WE dissolve into rabidness, is perhaps even a bigger danger than the terrorists. The terrorists could kill our bodies. Rabidness will kill our souls.
He will not get it.
I know, I can’t see how anybody thinks he could have said otherwise. If he does get elected how do they think negative statements is going to affect diplomacy and relations with the countries who’s leaders and populace is predominately Muslim? That’s even IF a candidate wanting to get in there and change this country for the better COULD get elected after spouting off what they’d call” hate speech.” Can’t you just see the headlines after that?
He certainly is not supposed to say “I love Muslims.”
He should have ducked the question.
Muslims are not going to vote for him, and non-Muslims who believe that Muslims are OK are not going to vote for him.
Now, the people who recognize the danger Islam presents to Western Civilization are not going to vote for him.
So, who will?
Well, it IS a religion by any dictionary definition.
It also has a core that is more evil than that of almost any other world religion, but due to a trend of spiritualizing that away (after all, even Muslims get tired of killing wars sooner or later) this factor is less troublesome than it could be in principle.
It is, in the end, a testimony to the presence of the real God in the world, that things are not worse than they are here.
I think this is going to end up bouncing off of the Trump teflon. This is a secularist Trump trying to make nice, but even he can see large trends when they get large enough to get on the American radar screen. He’d doubtless make a distinction between “ordinary Islam” and Islamic terrorist groups, even though the boundary between them is distressingly thin.
The big news seems to be that he wants to make nice with Christian faith. If you read the bible, you can see this is actually a historical rarity.
In other words, to be elected one has to act just like a politically correct liberal. So why bother with a wannabe liberal when you can elect a full-bodied one like, say, Hillary?
Just so!
EVERY Moslem in America is a potential threat!
There are no “Muslim Americans!”
There are Moslems in America, but they are not Americans!
It is beyond insane for America to continue to allow Moslems into the country — deport them all, I say! They are a clear and present danger to America!
If Islam disappears from earth, it will be a better place. Agreed. But it is wishful thinking. Realistic people must learn to deal with it. Can not kill 1.8 Billion people.
Come on, folks...he was talking to high school students!
Well, actually, I did.
I liked the fact that Trump was poking a sharp stick in the eyes of the Republicrat Establishment. I liked his ideas about immigration, and trade, and I believed he would have sorted out much of what has caused this country to go off the rails since WW II.
He is ballsy, and it would appear that he does not take guff FRom anyone. He is a fighter, and we all know that there have been very few Republicans in recent years willing to go nose-to-nose with Democrats and other enemies of America.
But, HST, his love affair with Moslems is a deal breaker.
Senator Cruz.
Might NOT be a better place, if the event in question that does it is the advent of the storied one world religion leader of Revelation. The demonic peace can — will — contain more evil than the current state of war.
We can damn sure wall them off!
It’s a group of high school students!!!
I'm quite sick of politicians who pander to muslims. Muslims are 1% of the population and their whims and sensitivities need constant attention. Screw that. Who cares if a politician loses the muslim vote. No one should give a crap what muslims think anyway. But instead, politicians act like muslims are a majority in America.
I agree. But we must be grateful that he is saying a lot of things that need to be said and bringing a lot of things to attention that need to be.
He’s certainly doing more good than bad.
