The nation of Panama has looked at their rising crime rate and increased gang activity, and has decided that the only think that will stop bad guys with guns is law-abiding citizens with guns.
Panamas decision has to be chilling to supporters of citizen control worldwide, as they see another nation embracing the reality that centralized control does nothing to protect the citizenry from crime.

Something Mexico should consider.
Per US Consulate:
Dont bring firearms or ammunition across the border into Mexico.
Dont carry a knife, even a small pocketknife, on your person in Mexico.

Not even Nail Clippers with fold out file! I spent 2 days standing in a Tijuana Jail with some really lovely folks for not giving the Cop all of my money after he found one in my pocket.

...Among the studys findings are the following:
Between 2007-14, murder rates have fallen from 5.6 to 4.2 (preliminary estimates) per 100,000. This represents a 25 percent drop in the murder rate at the same time that the percentage of the adult population with permits soared by 178 percent. Overall violent crime also fell by 25 percent over that period of time.
Concealed handgun permit holders are extremely law-abiding. In Florida and Texas, permit holders are convicted of misdemeanors or felonies at one-sixth the rate that police officers are convicted.
While 5.2 percent of the U.S. population has a concealed carry permit, the rate is only 0.24 percent in California. According to the CPRC study, State level permit data suggest that each 1 percentage point increase in the adult population holding permits is roughly associated with a 25 percent drop in the murder rate. However, Giving government officials discretion in who gets permits reduces the percent of adults who get permits by more than two-thirds....
Since 2007, gun sales, as measured by the FBIs National Instant Criminal Background Check System, have nearly doubled, from about 11 million to 21 million. And gun sales continued to break records this summer, with 4.8 million background checks performed in June, July and August. Moreover, the number of concealed handgun permits has nearly tripled since 2007, to 12.8 million. The trend has been particularly strong among women and minorities....
“That’d be 9-11 times... times... I don’t know HOW much that would be!!”
When did Panama become so racist?

The crime rate there is VERY bad- it’s about time the government there snapped out of their liberal coma and realizes now that they have been ENDANGERING their citizens for years by banning their RIGHT to own guns
When I was there one could get a carry permit by leaving the weapon and two rounds of hardball ammo with the police for two days. When you picked up the weapon you got your photo ID carry permit. $15, IIRC.
Hmmm... wonder what they did with it for two days.

Same for me. Was stationed there 5 years and carried all the time. The carry permit process was fast, easy and inexpensive. Crime was bad in areas, but I never had a problem. Most all of my Panamanian friends carried as well.

Minister of security had a meeting on aug 20 but only 19 deputies showed up to hear the bs.
Minister reported then that: Earlier in the month public concerns about apparent increasing crime rates had been categorized as largely a matter of perception, with statistics showing that crime rates have been falling.
Minister was only there to ask 10 questions not more.
No questions were asked and minister congratulated himself on a successful meeting.
Something happened between aug 20 and today?
LOL. They coulda done about anything, I guess. I assumed they fired the two bullets for ballistics.
