That was clearly the case with Bush, but Reagan was a social conservative and needed support from people to the left. Trump is not, and he needs to lock down the base - I think it will be Cruz.
Trump is a politician and always has been. Politicians are negotiators who get other people’s money to promote their wealth. You cannot develop hundreds of millions of dollars of RE and not be political.
Trump’s just never been elected.

Another contribution Trump has made is punch a hole in the left's push of speech control. It has become so oppressive that people are afraid to speak out in fear of losing their jobs or flunking college courses. Nobody else did it.
Also, Trump dared to bring up Obama's birth certificate. After that the attacks by Letterman, much of it on his appearance, started.
Nobody is perfect, not even Reagan. My parents were strong Reagan supporters and were stunned by his amnesty. While they remained his supporters, they felt it was a huge mistake.
I am seriously not going to sit here and prove to you what anyone even watching the debate would know. By the way, you ran from Walker's immigration position with your tail between your legs. As far as I'm concerned you sound like an amnesty pimp.

I think that we all appreciate your honesty, as most anti-Trump people won’t name their candidate (assuming that they even want a Republican to win) but I don’t see Walker going anywhere. In fact, I haven’t seen a word about him in any of the articles since the debate. You’ll likely have to find someone else...but I’m also happy you didn’t drink the Carson/Carla Kool-Aid like many, many, here have (i.e., the only way a Republican can ever hope to win is by running a black that won’t get any black votes, or running a woman that won’t pick up any additional female votes).

No, FRiend, it is the main issue. BigGov is the enemy. Trump is for Kelo, which means taking away the little guys property via BigGov and giving it to a person like Trump. Why? Because they can.
BigGov is at the heart of political lawlessness which includes illegal immigration. Illegal immigration is just a symptom and if you don’t treat the underlying disease you don’t get healthier.
Trump is a Democrat who is, like union rank and file, anti-illegal immigration. Sadly, too many only see what they want to see.
During the Primary it is our duty to elect the most conservative candidate, not the most popular one.

If Trump doesn’t have a reliably conservative VP candidate, I’m voting 3rd Party. Trump-Fiorina would be a ticket with 2 liberals on the Republican side against 2 Communists on the Dem side. I would vote Trump/Cruz, Trump/Jindal but not Fiorina.
The politicians in this race have a distinct advantage when they appear on a stage like this. They've memorized their pat answers...put together for them by consultants who focus group nearly every word and phrase. They talk well. But that's all they do...talk! The people have figured it out and they're by and large sick and tired of it. As long as Trump survives these slick, media 'events' he's the winner in my opinion.

For a guy who makes $70-400 million per year you’d think he’d have donated a ton of money to causes near and dear to conservatives: NRA? nothing. Pro-Life? nothing. Pro-marriage? nothing. Anti-illegal Immigration? nothing.

Populists are generally popularly supported. Trump’s a master marketer who could sell you the cash out of your own wallet. But he’s not a top notch businessman. His attacks on Fiorina (who I do not support)ring hollow. He’s arguing with a mirror.
I don’t want a populist, but a conservative. I particularly don’t want a Democrat populist. That’s what Trump is.
