GOP senators would back Trump as Republican nominee

Republican senators, the heart of the GOP establishment, will support Donald Trump if he wins the nomination for president, even though they’re not thrilled at the prospect. Trump has become a headache for Republican leaders in Washington, who question his electability but won’t criticize him publicly because he’s popular with the base and they fear he may wage a third-party bid. Still, even GOP senators who have been at the wrong end of the Republican frontrunner’s barbs say they’ll back him if he becomes their nominee.

“It’s hard to predict because a lot of things happen between now and then but I certainly would support the nominee, no matter who it is,” said Sen. John McCain (Ariz.), the 2008 GOP nominee whose war record and imprisonment in Vietnam was mocked over the summer by Trump.

“I can’t see myself saying a Democratic candidate would be better for the country,” said Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa), the chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee.

Republicans for much of the summer have been more worried about whether Trump would back the party’s nominee. But as the business mogul’s lead in polls has grown higher, Republicans have had to ponder how they’ll handle the possibility of Trump winning the race. Even the most prudent senators say they would back him in the general election.

“I intend to,” said Sen. Rob Portman (R), who faces a tough re-election in Ohio, a swing state and presidential battleground. “I guess you could come up with some scenario where something crazy could happen but I think the country’s in trouble and I think if we don’t have new leadership and new policies, it’s hard to imagine it getting back on track.”

As long as Trump's choice for VP is NOT Jebuardo Bush (can't imagine that in ANY scenario), the last time a Bush was Vice President, the President got shot less than 90 days into his first term.

then they will develop containment plans

I predict that Congress will rediscover all the power that they could not find to contain the current resident.

On the RINO escutcheon: “I do what I’m told, not what I tell.”

Heck, the GOPe will have to make the best of it if Trump or Cruz win.

LOL...

While I agree with the sentiment, there’s too much for same party members to ignore, by stabbing their own party guy in the back when he’s in the White House.

I do not know much about Portman, but; he “thinks” we have a problem or so? Does he ever come out and clearly state the facts about our economy being in deep trouble, all the millions on welfare, the US Military being used as a social experiment for queers and lesbians and all the PC MC BS . Our military today is a damn joke next to the regulars and even the draftees that served during WWII-Vietnam. These two female West Point officers were purposely graduated from Ranger training. Hell Obama told the Generals he’d be at their graduation before they graduated. Then old farts like Generals even led some of the patrols/marches the women were on. This nation needs some serious leadership to get back to the real USA.

Beware of the GOPE they lie just like liberal democrats. I have no doubt that a Trump or Cruz nominee will face more threats from the GOPE than they ever would from out of the closet liberal democrats. The GOPE is every bit as out of touch and evil as their out of the closet conservative hating democrat colleagues.
