On May 8, 2013nearly a month after Senator Joe Manchins (D-WV) gun control push failed to garner the votes necessary for passageBreitbart News suggested that gun controllers new tactic would be to treat gun owners the way the left treated cigarette smokers and seek a myriad of restrictions for health and other reasons.
On September 10, 2o15, Moms Demand Actions Shannon Watts explained that the her groups relentless, Micheal Bloomberg-funded push for gun control is fashioned after the way others pursued tighter [laws] on smoking.
During an appearance on Hardball with Chris Matthews, Watts claimed her gun control group is defeating the NRA by going around Congress to get policies in place at various businesses just like they did with tighter [laws for] smoking.
This is an old but often-used tactic, first espoused by then-U.S. Attorney Eric Holder in 1995. According to Newsbusters, Holder said:

That has been my experience as well.
I have had two desktop computers and four laptops.
The desktops I used and upgraded for years, I would pass them on to a relative when I was finished with them.
The four laptops saw heavy usage when I was still driving trucks.
I used them for record keeping and some pretty awesome map software as well as entertainment.
I smoked heavily around each one of them. Never had my smoking cause any problems.
When I would have the desktops upgraded, the fella that did the work would just say “you’re a smoker aren’t you.” thats all.
The laptops got killed by various accidents.
Falling off the truck bunk many times finally killed one.
One lost a fight with a platter of Hunan beef.
The other two just had numerous small accidents that totalled them over a period of time.
The one I have now is a survivor of the truck wars.
I have to prop the screen up, but it works just fine.
The score is:
Two desktops passed on to relatives.
Four laptops killed in the line of duty in the truck wars.
One laptop wounded but still in service.
Zero computers damaged by my affinity for nicotine.
One TV show that very few people watch starring 2 liars.
bump for reference.
The Anti-Smoking movement never won a lawsuit against Tobacco growers and Cigarette manufacturers.
The standard at common law in the tort system was rational, and they could not overcome it. They had to prove that a particular cancer was caused by smoking, and tie that to a particular manufacturer.
The liability lawers knew there was enormous money available, and they had significant cash. So they bribed legislators to change the tort law to make cigarette manufacturers liable.
They cut deals, it is all documented, with legislators that the lawyers would get a big cut of the money, the legislators would get a big cut as well, supposedly to be spent on smoking caused health effects.
But the cigarette companies had their own lobbiests.
What happened is that taxes on cigarettes were raised to pay the money, thus the smokers paid the lawyers and legislators.
It is ironic, as smokers tend to be have less money available than non-smokers.
Yet, with as many ‘homeless’ folks that we see around Reno, they somehow always have cigs and booze. I know a lot of them comb the ashtrays in the casinos for half smoked butts but we do see some with full packs. Pickin’s or store bought? They seem to be the lowest cost brand available. Haven’t heard what the tax structure is going to be when the “tax and regulate marijuana” initiative that will be on the ‘16 ballot passes. That’s how the petition was presented to the folks who signed it. No mention of “recreational” usage. If I remember right (?) the state already has 42 locations selected for ‘outlets’. The majority in Vegas with 4(?) in Washoe county and a couple in other counties.
It is very true. I am a computer technician, and I could always tell you when I was working on a computer that was used by/around smokers. The internals get coated with a thick, sticky (I suppose it’s tar) substance that attracts dust like a magnet, with exactly the effect you might expect to a machine that is heat sensitive. It’s a tremendous pain to clean off.
Funny story....I interviewed at Intel in 1984 for an HR job...one manager chatted with me in the Fab lunchroom which was divided into smoking and non smoking...the smoking side had an ugly brown ceiling...(and chips were being made on the floor just above it) The manager wanted to know how I would deal with the employees who were fighting the removal of the smoking area ... I must have answered ok, like the effect on equipment..as I got the job...and the smoking area soon went away.
Food stamps (or charge cards). Buy food with stamps/card, swap for cigs and booze.
