SHELTON, Wash. -- A soldier at Joint Base Lewis-McChord died Friday afternoon during a skydiving training exercise, military officials said.
The soldier, who has not been identified, is part of a special forces unit, according to Major Tim Chavez.
Members of the unit were doing air drop training around noon when the soldier was forced to deploy his reserve chute somewhere over Mason County.

Oh dear! I am so very sorry to hear this. My prayers go out for this young man and his family and may God grant his unit the grace to cope with this tragedy. I used to live not that far from Shelton.
Prayers for all concerned - so sad.
Thanks for the ping, Jem.
Prayers up.
An update from unofficial sources:
JT was not involved in this except in a search after the event. This mother’s heart is relieved.
Cpt. Ahn was doing HALO jumps. He did pull his reserve chute. The Army is still doing an investigation.
This Friday there will be a memorial service for Captain Ahn. Hopefully, there will be some closure for the men; his squad is, obviously, sad over this death. Cpt. Ahn leaves behind his parents and two siblings. Captain Ahn is a Christian.
Thanks for the update, Jem. Prayers continue.
OMG, that’s horrible. We had a guy where I work involved in a parachute accident and it stays with me.
