With all the outrage about growing economic inequality one might think that thered also be growing support for wealth redistributionpolicies that include hiking taxes for the wealthy or increasing aid to the poor. But a new working paper from NBER suggests that by and large, Americas desire to see wealth spread around more evenly hasnt really increased that much at all in the past 30 years. And in fact members of some of the most vulnerable economic groups are actually less supportive of efforts that would boost the economic standing of the less well-off than they once were.
The topic of economic inequality has been inescapable in recent years. Its become a talking point for everyone from famed economists to President Obama. And with good reason: The gap between the nations wealthiest and everyone else has been growing. And in the wake of an economic crisis that left scores of Americans unemployed and vastly devalued their largest assets, the rapid recovery of the wealthy as so many continue to struggle can feel painfully unfair.
In the face of such division, Vivekinan Ashok and Ebonya Washington of Yale University and Ilyana Kuziemko of Princeton, the authors of the NBER study, attempted to figure out if a widening economic gap had caused Americans to become more supportive of efforts to create a more equal distribution of wealth in the country. They plotted out how Americans responded to questions about wealth redistribution based on age, gender, and race over the past few decades. Though inequality had grown, Americans hadnt become any more supportive of using redistribution to fix the problem. For those over the age of 65, support for redistribution has actually waned as inequality has risen.

This is so true. Did you come up with this on your own or did you read it somewhere? I actually never quite thought it out in so concise a way of expression.
Now if the candidates can just keep it this simple, they might actually gain a lot more votes.
No just my own wealth redistribution systems explanation that came up with right now
Bottom like..... cut out the middleman... that leftist “distributor”....... that is taking such a large bite out of that cash flow from rich to poor
always go directly to the source the rich ... work with directly with them.....if you want to get the best deal
beware that left “middle man” trying to control the whole thing and take his cut.. normally the biggest cut for the least effort
Because the poor hope to become less poor.
If you gave all the money from the rich to the poor, the rich would have it all back in short order.
Maybe because the poor don’t believe in theft, knowing that the wealthy did not steal anything from them and do not monopolize their purchases or employment. Wake up socialists — America isn’t feudal Europe or Dikensian England, and slavery ended long ago.
Darn that whole morality thing! It’s still holding on and keeping people from being complete thieves!
Very good. I hope you don’t mind if I use it. I think it’s great.
Because they ARENT communists and understand that wealth isn’t ‘distributed’ because the government does NOT own it...
-rather, wealth is WORKED FOR and EARNED in a free society.
That middle man thing is so true for many things - not just wealth, but all sorts of products.
good point..
No go for it...
by the way.. in either system..the poor man still works....he just has work be a servent for the left middleman in the 2nt system....
Socialism never took root in America because the poor see themselves not as an exploited proletariat, but as temporarily embarrassed millionaires Often attributed to John Steinbeck
America has been a SOCIALIST NATION since before the federal reserve in 1913 passed by an almost empty Congress AND NEVER abrogated..
What IS wealth?..
I have little money but am not POOR..
So wealth is not money?
*************************************************************************
I’m wealthy because God gives me all I need, some people with lots of money are poor because they will never have enough.
I have food in my belly, clothes on my back, a roof over my head and a nice bed to sleep in. Everything else is extra bonus.
