That scheme is going to take a handful of accountants to determine who are already monthly donors and who are not.

I donate $50 a month, automatically sent from my bank account. I’m not paying to post replies here on top of that, and
I’m sure all our other monthly donors would frown upon being charged for posting as well.

It’s not a bad idea, dear Publius, but it may need a little massaging. Recruiting more new monthly donors would certainly
help with the FReepathons a lot, whereas extra fees for posting comments may drive some people away from the site.

The donation system and forum are not well-integrated mostly because the forum side of things isn’t (yet?) an encrypted environment, and also because I didn’t want donors to first be required to create an account. I am unsure the effect of the later, will need to look at the data, but the encrypted forum will likely happen as Google has decided to downrank unencrypted sites.
