Among the Republican presidential candidates, Mike Huckabee and Ted Cruz have stood out as the two most ardent defenders of Kentucky clerk Kim Davis, who was recently jailed after refusing to issue same-sex marriage licenses in her jurisdiction. The two conservatives made a point to travel down to the Carter County Detention Center on Tuesday to join protesters in support of Davis, but the plans changed slightly when a judge ordered her immediate release.
And then comes the following doozy from the New York Times write-up of this afternoons Kim Davis Release Extravaganza (emphasis ours):
"The rally Tuesday had been scheduled before it was known whether Ms. Davis would be released. Senator Ted Cruz of Texas, also a Republican presidential contender, made an appearance, but it was Mr. Huckabee, a former Baptist pastor, who grabbed the political spotlight.
When Senator Cruz exited the jail a throng of journalists beckoned him toward their microphones, but an aide to Mr. Huckabee blocked the path of Mr. Cruz, who appeared incredulous."
You must be shocked, dear reader, to learn that Huckabee planned to hog the Davis-induced political spotlight all for himself. Why else would he make such a low-key statement like Im willing to go to jail in her place?
I agree with your sentiment exactly. If Huckabee wasn't more interested in self promotion here than this cause, it would have been a much stronger statement to have Cruz included in headlines. Complete BS.
He's still stepping & fetching for the GOP establishment hoping for some consideration from the powers that be.
"Who's got the Huckabee PING list?" -- Maurice Clemmons, killed 4 WA state troopers after being pardoned by Huckster
+1
Was Cruz afraid to do anything about itDo you mean is he a wimpy pussy? Yes, but don't worry I'm sure he'll write a letter or go to the Senate Chamber and complain about how Huckabee lied to him.
Well that’s OK this was Huck’s deal. Tomorrow Cruz and Trump have their deal and Huck’s not invited so it all evens out.
Exactly.
What would you propose he doMan up.
I know one candidate that would have never let that asshole get away with being pushed around..
I still can remember Huck giving his West Virginia caucus votes to McCain to deny Romney a second state victory. We ended up with McLame.
Out of the whole bunch of candidates Cruz is the most Honorable, Ethical and Consistent Conservative, he would not do such a thing as you suggest, it sounds like a bold faced lie to me, you need to source such a false accusation from a legitimate publication.
Boldly battling the enemy without and within (some here on FR)... CRUZ 2016!
Cruz 2016. Hes the only one who wont pardon Clinton.
Exactly.. He’s not good friends with her..
Make no mistake I truly like and admire Ted Cruz, however in this instance, a little less ‘gentleman and an incredulous scholar’ reaction and a strong armed ‘knock-that-huckster-sonuvabitch-on-his-arrogant-ass’ response would have worked wonders.
Cruz needs his “I paid for this microphone” moment, and he needs it soon.
Thanks Mike. We will take your comments under consideration.
So a bully physically blocked Ted’s path, and his response was to become “incredulous?”
NO.. the author said he was incredulous.. whatever that means..
What Cruz actually DID, reacted to, or didn’t do ... no one knows...
This is a cheap shot by the Cruz cheap-shotters. I love Cruz. I am disgusted by some of his supporters. Stuff like this could make me vote for Huckabee over Cruz just to counter the cheaters.
The Hucksteran Elmer Gantry knockoff.
NO.... that would be TRUMP.. exactly..
Trump is a USED Billionaire salesman...
I agree. I side with Cruz here.
If the story is true, it sounds like Cruz is too weak to be president.
