Statement of Kentucky Clerk Kim Davis - It's a Heaven or Hell decision.
Liberty Counsel ^ | September 1, 2015 | Kim Davis

Posted on 09/04/2015 1:36:53 PM PDT by Jim Robinson

Kim Davis released the following statement a few days ago:

I have worked in the Rowan County Clerk’s office for 27 years as a Deputy Clerk and was honored to be elected as the Clerk in November 2014, and took office in January 2015. I love my job and the people of Rowan County. I have never lived any place other than Rowan County. Some people have said I should resign, but I have done my job well. This year we are on track to generate a surplus for the county of 1.5 million dollars.

In addition to my desire to serve the people of Rowan County, I owe my life to Jesus Christ who loves me and gave His life for me. Following the death of my godly mother-in-law over four years ago, I went to church to fulfill her dying wish. There I heard a message of grace and forgiveness and surrendered my life to Jesus Christ. I am not perfect. No one is. But I am forgiven and I love my Lord and must be obedient to Him and to the Word of God.

I never imagined a day like this would come, where I would be asked to violate a central teaching of Scripture and of Jesus Himself regarding marriage. To issue a marriage license which conflicts with God’s definition of marriage, with my name affixed to the certificate, would violate my conscience. It is not a light issue for me. It is a Heaven or Hell decision. For me it is a decision of obedience. I have no animosity toward anyone and harbor no ill will. To me this has never been a gay or lesbian issue. It is about marriage and God’s Word. It is a matter of religious liberty, which is protected under the First Amendment, the Kentucky Constitution, and in the Kentucky Religious Freedom Restoration Act. Our history is filled with accommodations for people’s religious freedom and conscience. I want to continue to perform my duties, but I also am requesting what our Founders envisioned – that conscience and religious freedom would be protected. That is all I am asking. I never sought to be in this position, and I would much rather not have been placed in this position. I have received death threats from people who do not know me. I harbor nothing against them. I was elected by the people to serve as the County Clerk. I intend to continue to serve the people of Rowan County, but I cannot violate my conscience.

I agree with your post except for this line: “what the majority of all Americans believe.” In fact, tens of millions oppose Mrs. Davis and always will.

Article 6 of the US Constitution: NO RELIGIOUS TEST SHALL BE REQUIRED FOR PUBLIC OFFICE.
First amendment states that congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion NOR PROHIBITING THE FREE EXERCISE THEREOF.

Great post.

One of the reasons I come to FR is for the great thinkers putting out logical ideas. Often ideas that no one else has considered.

Thanks for the great post. You’ve given us more to think about.

She might not word it all that beautifully, but people understand the concept. Don’t shanghai us into doing what is wicked. I think the overthinkers and wonks are missing the point here. People aren’t looking for a fine grained legal battle here conducted by Marquis of Queensbury rules.

thanks for this post.

beautifully written, shot though with the lucidity, candor, truth and doctrine marking a child of God inspired by the Holy Ghost. Heaven or hell indeed.

may God continue to bless and keep His loyal servant, Kim Davis. if it be your will at this time, Lord, please have her released. Amen.

Oh Yeah! The media will make sure that you know every time she soiled her diaper when she was an infant. Each time she marked on her bedroom wall as a child. Along with any other real or imagined instances that can be used to assassinate her character.

I am cautiously optimistic because America is becoming once more concerned with the “old fashioned” concepts of wickedness and righteousness.

The Lord permitted this challenge to come. How will America meet the challenge, is a still open question (if not from a perfectly foresighted Lord’s point of view, then from our earthly point of view).

Nice to know Sister Woman is fully vested in the pension system and will be well taken care. Turns out her Mother was Clerk for 37 years and her son works there to. Nice family run operation.

attacking her character as a hypocrite based on past behavior before her surrendering her life to Jesus Christ.

So, you've read some Pharisaical opinions, eh? Well, I'm not surprised. It seems some people are self-righteous enough to forget (or ignore) Jesus' own words: "And when Jesus heard it, he said to them, “Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick. I came not to call the righteous, but sinners.” (Mark 2:17)

Funny thing is, the Pharisees didn't recognize their own sickness. Jesus has a real soft-spot in his heart for sinners and if this woman is an example of a life turned around because of him, then all the glory to the Savior.

I agree with your observations, Jim. I stand with Kim. She should NOT have to resign, no matter what 5 black-robed secular lawyer-tyrants say.

Well I know how I lived (and am still learning how not to live any more).

And it wasn’t pretty. A mean glum raging clumsy bum oaf would be a genteel way to put it.

At the very worst, all the court should rightfully have done is order impeachment proceedings, or possibly a special election for the people to vote her out (which I'm betting wouldn't happen).

Boy you really want to grant additional powers to an out of control judiciary?

Courts do not have the authority to order impeachment proceedings or special elections. Why would you even think they should consider that?

"I think after reading some of the comments on Facebook, a lot of people have no clue as to what Christianity is about. They seem to think you can leave at the door while you go to work and pick it back up once you feel like it."

It's much worse than that. There seems to be a MAJORITY of people in the media and on public forums, that not only can you leave your beliefs at home, but you DAMN WELL BETTER.

Under penalty of jail, or loss of a job, etc.

Yes, in 20 years it's gone from "I don't care what gay people do in their homes just don't shove it in my face."

In 2015: "Not only WILL you have what gays do shoved in your face, but you better CELEBRATE it. Or ELSE!"

I never thought that attitude would ever happen in America.

Over any issue, really.
