Five current Rutgers football players, including the cornerback at the center of a university-led investigation into coach Kyle Flood, were charged Thursday with assaulting a group of individuals, including one student whose jaw was broken during the unprovoked attack, Middlesex County Prosecutor Andrew C. Carey and Anthony A. Caputo, director of the New Brunswick Police Department, announced.

Coach is OUT, if there are any consequences at all. A moral coach could have prevented a lot in this case. Prison works nicely for the thug students.

How damn stupid can you get? A free college education and exposure to the chance of being a pro athlete, but you’re so stupid you can’t wait a few years to earn the money to buy what you want. To you, it make more sense to steal what you want from someone else. I say throw the book at them and give them free room and board in the state pen.

Two of those arrested had an Italian name and a Chinese name, charged with planning.
But the Newark Star-Ledger has a full-width headline and eight black faces, top of the fold. They’re going to catch some grief for that.
The real point isn’t that the criminals are black. Thugs will be thugs, whatever their race.
The real point is that university football is so outlandishly important that they recruit thugs. Why on earth does it matter so much to beat your rivals, if you have to bring in thuggish ringers to represent your school, just because your rival is doing it too?
