Jorge Ramos Illustrates Why Trump’s Border Wall Is Utterly Pointless
Mediaite ^ | 3 Sep 2015 | Matt Wilstein

During his press conference in New York on Thursday, Donald Trump reiterated his dedication to building a massive wall along the entire southern border of the United States with Mexico. Univision anchor Jorge Ramos thinks this idea is not merely absurd but also a “complete waste of time and money.”

“As you can imagine, for the last few days, I’ve been thinking a lot about Donald Trump and his plan to deport more than 11 million undocumented immigrants from the United States,” Ramos said in a segment for his Fusion show America, following his confrontation with the GOP frontrunner a week ago.

Ramos proceeded to use a white board to literally illustrate everything that is wrong with Trump’s plan. According to an estimate calculated by The New York Times, building the wall will cost $16 million per mile for a total of about $20 billion. Ramos noted that the larger border between the U.S. and Canada would remain “completely open” (assuming Scott Walker is not elected president).

“This wall would be a complete waste of time and money,” Ramos continued, citing a survey that found nearly 40% of undocumented immigrants come into the country by plane and overstay their visas (this is where Chris Christie’s FedEx-like tracking program comes in handy).

On top of that, Ramos noted that more immigrants are coming into the country from China than are coming from Mexico. “Go figure,” he said.

"What does Mexico represent? Utopia for Spanish speakers?"

What Mexico ought to represent is the 51st state by annexation.

Of course that would require the resolve to acculturate the Mexicans to the American way of life, much like what should be done with any immigrants we expect to become citizens.

Sadly it appears that as a nation we utterly lack such resolve, in either case.

Humor us Jorge. Let’s build it and if just as many illegals get into the US as before, we’ll all admit you were right.

If it won’t work, why does he care? 20 billion dollars is nothing compared to a lot of other govt programs.

Well, Jorge, if it isn’t such a big deal then why are you putting so much effort into stopping the wall? It isn’t like you’re concerned about taxpayer’s money.

The IRS sends refunds and tax credits to illegals to the tune of over 4 billion a year.

5 years...wall paid off on those savings alone

Unfortunately, 12,000,000 is a GROSS underestimate.....it’s more like 24,000,000 with another 4,000,000 buns in the oven as we speak.

Some years ago while I was watching ABC evening news — and I can’t believe they did it — the program did a segment on illegal immigration from Mexico. They had a shot with a night vision camera showing the influx of illegals coming across the border at a particular point. It was literally an army of men, and they said it happened nightly. Jorge is a fool.

The numbers are much closer to 40M than 20M.

People coming in on a visa are required to promise they will leave when their visa is up. Based on their representation that they will leave, they are let into this country for a defined length of time. Anyone who overstays, upon detection by law enforcement (there’s a laugh) needs to be fined, kicked out of the country summarily, and never, ever allowed to return. Period.

Excellent suggestion. Privatize the endeavor and allow for a no bag limit hunt. Award dollars based on number of confirmed illegals captured or repelled. Saves money and provides for an entertaining evening of national security. Could even have a lottery system where hunters compete for the most lucrative game units.

Ramos could let every one in Mexico know that the rules have changed and that it is dangerous to cross. If the program is successful it could widen to include prize money for capturing employers of the trespassers, and even the trespassers who are far north of the border. Where there is a will - there is a way.

building the wall will cost $16 million per mile

That's peanuts. Houston's Metrorail's latest stretch cost $181,250,000.00 a mile.

And the Indians didn’t build a 2500 mile wall between India and Bangladesh.

Nor are they building one between themselves and Pakistan.

Nor are they building one between India and Myanmar.

Nor does Israel have 450 mile wall between Israel and Pakistan

The total length of the Great Wall of China building in different dynasties is 13,170.69 miles (21,196.18 kilometers), announced by China’s State Administration of Cultural Relics in 2012. The length of the Great Wall of Ming Dynasty (1368-1644) was 5,500.3 miles (8,851.8 kilometers) from Hushan in Liaoning to Jiayuguan Pass in Gansu on April 18 in 2009.

A physical wall is so Roman Empire. Emporer Hadrian would be proud.

All we need is disguised motion activated cameras, drones, ATV with armed agents and a command and control system. We could be doing this next month for a fraction of the cost. Apprehendees would be finger printed and deported on the spot. If returned, then internerned for a year.

Eventually a trickle.
