I’m just curious: Has this ever happened before with ANY other candidate before in the US, Repub and Democrap? A “loyalty” pledge?? Who invented this crap? And is it even legally binding?

That was my thought “Is it legally binding”. Also have the other candidate in the GOP have signed a “Loyalty Oath”?

Trump is NOT my top choice or even my second. But I admire a lot about what he’s done. I think during the debate it was GREAT that he refused to blindly swear loyalty to the future nominee. Blind loyalty indicates abdication of free will and intelligent thought processes.

I might be willing to promise to vote for some particular candidate, should he become nominee, but I would never blindly promise party loyalty. Insanity.

That's what I'd like to know.
I didn't like this whole pledge thing when FoxNews brought it up at the beginning of their debate (which they had no right to do if they are a news organization), and I don't like it now that the GOP is bringing it up. Why don't the GOP leaders sign a pledge that they'll throw their support behind a conservative candidate instead of another milquetoast establishment RINO?!?

This could be the first time in a presidential primary. State Democrat parties in Texas and Florida required that party officials and candidates sign a pledge to support the party's candidate in the general election. Dennis Kucinich refused to sign and took his case to court.

The Virginia Republican party wanted primary voters to sign one. And there was talk in 2004 that attendees at Bush rallies had to sign a pledge of loyalty to be admitted. It's something that's been creeping into US politics for a while now.

This loyalty pledge nonsense makes the RNC look like 3rd word dictators.
