There is something about Trump.
He has the it factor. While travelling through Ireland with a tour group earlier this summer, the first question I received from a blue-collar Canadian couple was about Donald Trump. The man, a leader in his local building trades union, stated on multiple occasions, Maybe its time for a man of business to lead your country. Hardly the sentiment one would expect from a union man.
At home, a friend who works as a school bus driver and maid tentatively asked me about him ending the neutral conversation with her strong declaration of support. I doubt that this smart, hard-working, woman has ever registered to vote, but she will to vote for The Donald.
Each of these people know something is very wrong with our country and that the system is broken, and each independently have come to the conclusion that Donald Trumps brand of straight shooting is what is needed to fix it.
Political platitudes and slick campaign commercials cannot compare to the politically incorrect businessman who has heads nodding across the nation, even as political elites are scratching theirs.
The appeal is simple. The people see Trump as authentic and a direct contrast to Jeb Bush or other candidates being pushed by the inside-the-Beltway establishment. A billionaire, who doesnt need the job, willingly accepting that some business partners will choose to end their relationship due to his positions because he sees his nation in trouble.
Republican consultants think they can beat Trump by talking about issues, never realizing that the public doesnt believe any of them because, too often, their actions have not matched their rhetoric. All the rules about credibility have been thrown out the window.

I see the author is titled President of Americans for Limited Government. I can only conclude that either he never believed in limited government in the first place or he is too stupid to realize that Trump represents a repudiation of what he stands for. Trump is the fulfillment of the nightmare that will destroy small government, free market conservatism for a generation or more. He is the fusion of social conservatism and economic leftism. He is I’m afraid what under the surface those who called themselves conservatives wanted all along, but never fully admitted. Trump is the New Deal Democrat circa 1949. The flag waving union delegate of old. People want big government working for them, they do not want smaller government. They want the entitlements to keep flowing. I’m afraid the only thing that will stop the Leviathan now is a complete financial collapse of the whole unsustainable setup. Nobody today is interested in smaller government, even conservatives. Us small government, free market types represent such a small segment of the population that our goals will never be reached. As much as I hate it, I cannot deny the facts.
He definitely has the “it” factor. I’ll vote on the social issues first, but Trump is lovable. I won’t deny that.
The “tea party” was born in the early days of the Obama regime not from the election of Obama, but from the absolute incapacity and refusal of GOP to confront and fight him.
Trump’s candidacy has caught fire precisely thanks to this last election cycle where GOP campaigned on a promise to stop Obama including de-fund Obamacare, and instead we find them signing off on absolutely everything he does. We have Boehner and McConnell to thank for the fact that Trump’s support is so widespread.
The people running against him don’t understand that or don’t want to understand it. The way to beat him isn’t to attack him, but to do a better job of attacking the forces people see as unraveling the country. And that includes most especially the GOP establishment.
I have observed in my extended family that people who are engaged can discuss the minutiae of Walker or Cruz or Jindal or Bush’s program, but the much larger group who are not engaged love Trump. The ones who are engaged love him less but conclude that he is the only one with a chance to turn things around, as the others either have no chance or won’t do it anyway.
My only concern with Trump is that we haven’t actually heard many details on his programs beyond the border. He says he’ll be great on Women’s services... what does that mean exactly? Similarly Cruz, who is my favorite, needs to re-think his position on H1b visas. Otherwise, those are the only two I am interested in.
I’m tired of the people political consultants run - the type that look good on TV and are so empty they’re afraid to speak unless their political consultant handler tells them a comment has been focus group tested 4 times.
The ‘charm’ of people who say the right words - over and over and over again - but don’t do anything they promised after they’re elected is OVER for me.
Trump’s a breath of fresh air ....

Trump a social conservative? Wut?
The nightmare that is destroying small government is electing Republicans who happily vote to advance the progressive agenda. It’s already happening and unless we break up the beltway cartel they will finish the job.
Heres some candy little girl, come with me, I will take you home.
I am sure he made the decision to run with the article and I am sure that he knows more about Trump than you do.
Rich spends millions to try to limit the size of the Federal Government. If he believed Trump wasn't on board with that, he most certainly would not have his employee publish such an article.
How ya like them apples?
I just call them as I see them. Trump is a Democrat of the pre 1968 type. I live in Realville, USA and understand that my type of small government, free market conservatism has failed miserably in the battle of ideas. It has not made a dent in the American way of thinking. The Trump candidacy represents that even conservatives are New Deal Democrats now.
"People who go to work every day and shake their heads at how crazy our nation has become have a hero in Donald Trump."
"For establishment Republicans, it is their own weakness in confronting what has been a wholesale assault on American culture that has forced the people to turn to Trump for leadership. In the month ahead, through the government funding process, Congress will get one last chance to show they are willing to stop Obamas transformational agenda."
" Failure to exercise their constitutional authority to put the executive branch in check will be the final nail in the coffin for establishment Republicans trying to stop the anti-Washington, Trump movement."
So, in the months ahead, when Congress again fails to follow the mandate of the Nov, 14 election and doesn't Stop Obama, then Trump's numbers will soar even more. Bank on it.
I will only vote for a conservative
I care about conservatism
After 2012 a lot of FReepers said they wanted to elect a real conservative in 2016
This whole Trump thing is sad. Very sad.
I see so many here abandoning conservatism at the drop of hat by a phony celebutard that it makes me cringe.
I weep for this country.
