President Obama wants to change the name of Mt. McKinley to Denali after more than 100 years. Great insult to Ohio. I will change back!

how exactly was it never owned by the Alaska Natives?

there are sites in Alaska going back 11,000 years that show human settlement.

If McKinley was a Dem, we would not be having this conversation.

When is Obama going to recommend changing some of the things named after that Klan leader, Robert C. Byrd.

Yes, I am serious.

If Jeff Davis has to go, so does Byrd.

This is entirely true. I have lived here since 1997 and have never heard it referred to as anything but Denali. In 1980 (some reports say 1975), the government of Alaska, which has been very conservative over the years, has always referred to it as Denali.

I am white, adopted into a family where my adoptive mother and her whole line are Choctaws.

I fully support the name being Denali, as do the majority of the people living in this state.

This is something Alaskans have been trying to change for over 40 years.

If this had been done under a Republican administration, nobody here would have a problem with it.

I live in Wasilla, AK. Its Mt McKinley, period, end of story.

I live in Wasilla, AK. Its Mt McKinley, period, end of story. Just like two homosexuals can’t by definition be “married” by judicial decree, Mt Mckinley is what it is despite no matter what comrade leader says.

If Denali means “great one,” then perhaps they should rename the mountain - Mt. Levin - you know, after Mark Levin - the great one! LOL

Tourist to Alaskan: How far to Mt McKinley.”
Alaskan to Tourist: You mean Denali? About 350 miles, half way between Anchorage and Fairbanks. But you can see the “Great One” most of the way up and down the highway.”

Flew into Anchorage on a Feb Sunday. We drove toward the mountain for over two hours. Didn’t see to get any closer.

"I've long advocated for state sovereignty."

I've long advocated for the government closest to the people! Cities, Counties and even Fire, Water and Recreation districts and Homeowners Associations should reign supreme with States and Federallies only getting the left-over revenue, if any!!!

I mean it! Let's go flat out all the way. Every County and City already has a Tax Collector. Let 'em collect the tax and forward whatever's left on up hierarchy and tell 'em to wait in line!!!

In CA for instance, can you imagine all the crappola we could have held at bay by forcing lobbyists to have to button-hole the five county supervisors of each of the fifty eight counties to get something passed statewide? Beautiful!!!

In the mid '90's the Feds were all upset about "The County Supremacy Movement" in CA!!! What a funny thing to watch!!!

This is why Trump is doing so darned well.

He just says what he thinks.

Look at the post directly above yours, re: electoral votes. This isn't Trump saying what he thinks. It is pure pandering to a more important (electorally) state.

With so many becoming more and more disagreeable these days, it’s truly a thrill when some one actually agrees so sincerely with something one has said in a verbose rant. (grin)

My suspicions were aroused when the state took away the authority of local school boards to hire and fire public school teachers in the early 60s.

I've only been a Californian since the summer of 1964. When I was elected a county supervisor in 1994 the NIMBY's and BANANA's (anti-growth negativity Nazis) told me they feared "citizen politicians" in local government as they were too easily overwhelmed by the "Evil Developers" bearing gifts and inducements!

I always reminded them of Jesse Unruh in the CA legislature (who never had to deal with Real Estate Developers that often) who said, "If you can't take their money and (BLEEP) their women and still vote against them... You're in the wrong business!" But of course he and all the other saintly Demonicrats were never immune to temptation and sin!!!

But then, again... It was the infamous Jesse and Jerry show that brought us the evil of unionized "public servants" that we are dominated by today!!!
